Hey there i've been thinking a lot lately about what i want for my chaos daemon army. After my last post i got a ton of awesome replies that helped me a lot to build a great list. The only thing that disappointed me was that Tzeentch didn't seem to be very good without spamming summoning... But i'm getting off topic. I'm curious to know if i'm allowed to replace my warhammer models with other models. For example i really dislike the Herald of Tzeentch on disc model cause i think it just simply looks bad. So i would replace it with Gaunt summoner cause i think that model fits my army 10 times better I would of course just play him as a regular herald of Tzeentch but just with another model. And i would probably do this with my heralds of nurgle as well. But i would only replace models with other models that fit the army so nothing crazy like necrons in a spacemarine army

For a count as army (or using an alternate model for any unit/model really) - the general rule I like to apply is that the model should be on the right size base and be roughly the same size.

So using the Gaunt summoner on foot for a herald on foot would be fine but if you want a herald on disc - I would expect him to be flying in some way and have a suitable height to him as well as a similar mass

There are no real hard and fast rules - talk to your opponent and I expect most would be fine if you made it clear in a pick up game.

For events - the TO is the person to ask

As a TO I have had more than a few odd replacements used at my events!

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Yes this model i want to replace the Herald of Tzeentch on disc with is from age of sigmar. But i only play 40K and i like a lot of the sigmar only models so i just wanted to replace a few heralds and that's about it

If there is an official model of the game in question, replace it with anything of about the same size and silhouette. 40k uses true LoS, so if you could shoot the head of the official model when behind a wall, aim to get a similar outcome with the proxy/counts-as model.

If there is no official model, 'Rule Of Cool' all the way.
That is the essence of the GW HHHobby.

The real issue is modelling for advantage. If you are trying to swap it out for a model that is a considerably different size to benefit from line of sight or conversely to make the model smaller than the original for hiding behind other models or terrain. If you're confident you are not doing that most people won't have a problem.

Some people may have issues with not using GW models but this doesn't apply in this case.

This kind of question may be better suited to general discussion.

That's why i would take a herald of Tzeentch ON THE DISC since Gaunt summoner is always on his disc. Gaunt summoner's disc is even a little bit taller so i will only make it slightly easier for people to kill him. And i would never use none games workshop models unless it was for a model like Ku'gath who doesn't have an official model. Thanks for the answers so far I can now buy my Gaunt summoner yay!
