Baal

Hey guys,

I mainly play stormcast eternals in age of sigmar, but i have recently ran into problems when facing seraphon or other summoning armies.

The lfgs close to my place plays age of sigmar per the 4 page rulebook that gw released. We do not have any restrictions. So we can shoot into melee without penalty, etc.

I've played a few tournaments so far and I'm having a lot of issues dealing with Seraphon. My opponent often uses bastiladon, engine of god, and temple guards. He often just summons

ripperdactyl riders and flank me that way. This time i am planning on playing the skyborne slayers formation in our 75 wound tournament. My list looks like this:

1 Celestant prime on foot

5 Liberators hammer/shield

5 Liberators hammer/shield

5 judicators Skybolt bow w/ 1 shockbolt bow

5 judicators crossbow/ w/ special crossbow

4 protectors

3 decimators

Celestant Prime

This runs me at 74 wounds.

Would this list work against him?

Ouch, so you're playing wound cap (literally the worse balancing mechanic possible) with no restrictions on summoning at all?

I would really try and get the tourney runners to adopt any of the comps. Surely you get armies with 4 Bray Shamans summoning in Archaon and Greater Deamons all game long? Or armies that are Nagash, 3 Mortachs and some Morghast summoning up zombie dragons and more Morghast all game?

Also will you be playing a fight to the death, or do you have objectives to capture?

I can see that your strategy is going to be to teleport the paladin types in 5" away from a summoner and smash them off the table with the Star Soul maces (hopefully you have 4 between the decimators and protectors). If you don't have any objectives I would consider dropping the 10 liberators and replacing them with 2x Knight Vexillors (5 wounds each) and adding in another 3x protectors or decimators (one with another Starsoul Mace if you push a unit to 6).

The Knight Vexillors have an almost identical ability to the Skybourne Slayers but you can teleport within 3" instead of 5" which firstly makes it much more unlikely to fail the charge, but is also much harder to deploy against - lastly if you are up against two Slann, you could teleport a unit to either one and smash them both up.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestions! Thank god no one has brought nagash onto the table so far. Two knight Vexillors sounds good to me. In your opinion should i keep the Judicators? I also have 2 models of fulminators, and am wondering if it would be better to field them instead of the Judicators.

Hopefully a Stormcast player can come in here to offer some real advice. I would keep the Judicators because of the range threat they offer. Especially if you are playing objective games and have some in your deployment zone.

On the subject of Vexillors, have you considered just having 1 and combing the decimators and protectors into a single larger unit? Not sure if they are fully assembled or not yet, but the standard tactic used at places like the SCGT was to have 1 Vexillor and 10 Retributors with 4 Starsoul Maces - you would find this more effective than the 2 small units and 2 Vexillors but if you can't change how they're built or don't have the models to hand don't worry too much.

okay i play stormcast only as well and have played them in many different army building varieties (Iwounds/wounds+warscroll/ etc)

First off i play against death all the time literally every day i game i play death at least once so i understand how summoning hurts

Also i just wanted to say that i know the sky born slayers seem really cool and they are but they literally make use of none but 1 of our effective units which are the judicators.

our best units are Dracoth's (concussors) these are our best unit period. other good units are Retributors and to some extent star drakes and outside judicators which in my experience only the shock bolt bows are effective the crossbows require you to be to close and judicators SUCK in combat.

my normal 75 wounds list is this

2x4 concussions
Lord Celestant on dracoth
and 12 judicators with 2 shockbolt bows

with this you get a good amount of shooting from the various powers of the dracoths and from the bows themselves

and your fast enough to get to the summoners and tough enough to just destroy anything in combat and you never have to worry about battleshock because of the lords command ability

Sorry to say you can't have Protectors or Decimators. They come in units of min 5 only Rets come in Min 3
