So, having them just released RE 6 HD on PS4, I'm replaying it A) for some easy trophies and B) since I never beat Chris or the Russian guy's campaign. I wanted to talk about the game and some of my frustrations.

1) It's fun, but man, some of the combat is janky. Like zombies still moving after they're dead, but they look alive so you waste ammo. Also, some of the action inputs are hard/awkward to pull off, and I feel like base zombies do WAY too much damage. Likewise, the shotgun does too little.

2) I like the environments and part of the story, but the acting is terrible, and the character's are written TERRIBLY. I mean, Leon acts like a whiny girl for half of the beginning, because "I can't save everybody!" Dude, you spent 3 days in Raccoon City. You know what happens to civillians.

3) This could've been a good game. Remove the RE name, remove Leon and Chris, and you have a fun, if somewhat silly, horror action game.

Resident Evil has always been somewhat cheesy though, that being said from what I hear 6 is quite a letdown.

I actually rather enjoyed RE6. Movement in particular felt a lot smoother and that helped really elevate the combat. It actually made it really difficult to go back to the earlier games tbh - RE4 is great and all but Leon also handles like a fridge in comparison, especially on PC. The story was fine - nothing extraordinary but enough to keep me interested (the Ada sequences in particular kinda reminded me of the Resident Evil movies, which I know is a controversial subject but I liked them). The multiple intersecting campaigns idea was also pretty neat and the characters had decent variety gameplay-wise although I agree that their dialogue ranged from a sort of narmy charm to absolutely cringeworthy.

Resident Evil is one of those game series that makes me sad. The original and two were so chock full of legitimately scary moments they could be nerve wracking to play.

The isometric camera angles, the slow pace of combat, the excellent soundtrack, all helped to create a claustrophobic atmosphere.

Three, was where things began to change. The story started getting weirder and began to go off the rails. Sure I liked Nemesis, I thought it was fun to have a mini tyrant chasing you around but the conspiracy story with the mercs just felt off.

And then, four came out... I do not find four scary at all. The combat is empowering, and the immersion is constantly broke with stupid moments like killing birds to buy flashbangs from a merchant.

Five, I played through with my ex and this was more of the same and personally this is where the series died for me. Its not a horrorgame anymore. This is a game where a guy punches out a rock.

And six, well I didnt even bother playing it. I watched a lets play on youtube and about hurt myself rolling my eyes at just how much hot garbage this series had turned into. I honestly don't understand the appeal but that is probably due to the fact I'm getting old.

Apologies for the rant/ tangent. I just find it hard to understand the appeal of this game in the series after we had such a solid start. Hell even the original Resident Evil remastered kept that beautiful dread that has since been forgotten.

To each our own of course. I'm meerly curious I guess.

Agreed. My tough spot is, I played the crap out of 4 and 5 and I loved them. But they're not the scary survival horror that 1 and 2 were.

First thank you for not finding my tirade insulting.

Second, I can freely admit four and five could be fun games. Not really Resident Evil anymore but still fun in their own way.

I guess maybe calling them 'popcorn fuel' might be appropriate. A good turn your brain off and enjoy the spectacle.

Still, Six just looks so... horrid and not in the fun way. Are you really just subjecting yourself to it for easy trophies? Cause the story isnt anything to write home about.

I am, mainly for the occasionally fun gameplay and just to see it through. I've beat Leon and Chris's campaign, but not the other guy, so I need to see it through in a masochistic way.

I can honestly respect that. I played through Aliens Colonial Marines for the exact same reason. I bought it and damn well if I wasn't going to finish it.
