I'm making a survey mostly out of interest to see what things people prefer when it comes to a few things in competitive
40K. I run Nemesis Wargaming, a national gaming club in our country. From late 2014, we've run 12 tournaments in 3 different cities and our rules package has been used in around ~215 battles within said tournaments. I won't go indepth about the rest of the package as it has national preferences present and is slightly different from say, the way people like to play in the US but I'm still interested in feedback regarding these few questions as they are quite universal and this survey is held just for general guidelines.
The idea of our rules package is to be competitive, but to limit some of the more ridiculous things (such as an army consisting of Riptide Wings or 50 Warp Spiders.) There is some ITC influence present, such as adjusted Invisibility. The scenarios played are hybrids of Eternal War and Maelstrom of War, with Maelstrom being modified to be more stable (only 2 cards per turn, only 1 of the same Objective X can be scored per turn, D3 is always 2 and such.) We usually aim to keep all different playstyles in the game even if they might be tedious to play against as different players like different styles of armies and tech.
Some statistics:
0 tournaments have been won by a deathstar with our rules package in use.
2 tournaments have been won by a maximized
MSU list with our rules package in use.
The rest of the victories have gone to different kinds of
TAC lists or other specialized builds.
Armies such as Imperial Guard and Dark Eldar have also won the tournaments, meaning you can do well without a top tier army too.
Most of the time our tournaments are 3 round ones that last a single day so people from further away have an easier time attending.
Guidelines:
I would prefer answers mostly from people who are into competitive
40K and play it actively. Everyone can ofcourse say their piece, but someone who likes a fluffy Deathwing -army he has spent a decade painting might have differing views to someone who plays actively in tournaments with a top tier list.
Regarding the question about Purge The Alien:
-Purge The Alien is present to keep
MSU spam in check, but with a light touch. Most of our players prefer playing against an
MSU more than a deathstar.
-Option one is an
ETC based tertiary Purge The Alien. It's present in every game played, and is resolved with a 1:1 difference with a hard cap (say, 3 points.) Example:
Billy destroyed 10 units from Josh.
Josh in turn destroyed 6 units from Billy.
Therefore Billy has killed 4 more units in total, but due to the hard cap he nets 3 Victory Points only.
-The second option is having one Purge The Alien Eternal War mission be a part of a single scenario. Basically the difference between these two is that the tertiary one has a constant but smaller effect, and the single Eternal War scenario has a one time effect during the tournament, but a larger one.
Our tournaments use the common (atleast in the
EU) scoring table for determining tournament points, seen here:
If you do not understand the question, you can leave it unanswered, that's fine.
The rest of the questions should be pretty straightforward. I'm holding 2 different surveys for players in our country and elsewhere separately, as ofcourse national opinion has a bit more weight in our decisions and it's also interesting to see if the answers differ a lot.
Thanks for your time should you choose to participate. Currently I'm not looking into feedback from other topics than the ones included.
