Got a small points tournament coming up and want to try a new army. It's based on an idea I saw Reece Robbins using when the assassins formation first came out. Don't have much to spend so want to go with the assassins formation. (That and I love the idea of the assassins busting s~~t up!)

Here's what I'm thinking for 750 points:

Assassins formation 570
Culexus
Vindicare
Culexus
Eversor

10th Company task force(Raptor tactics) 180
5 scouts, bolters, MBs 60
5 scout , bolters, MBs 60
5 scout, bolters, MBs 60

Scouts can get forward into positions to support the assassins. With the formation special rules, they have stealth until they move and precision shots on the first turn. Both of these rules stack up quite nicely with the raptor tactics which makes the bolters heavy 1 rending if they do not move.

What are your thoughts? I have no idea what other people are bringing to the tournament and I would like to win

The list looks fun, but it is very matchup dependent. You'll do very well against small, elite armies and armies with lots of psykers. You won't do well against hordes, gunlines, or armor.

What will you do against an Astra Militarum army in nothing but AV12 Chimeras? What will you do against Flyers?

I think your list is as good as it can be if you must run the Assassin formation though.

Thanks for the reply Gorgosaurusrex. Yeah i agree with what you're saying. Against flyers there's nothing I can do.

I have been thinking about how I would deal with hordes. I think that I will change the scouts to Lamenters chapter tactics as this gives me furious charge. Scouts with CCWs get 3 S5 attacks on the charge plus 1 bolter shot each. Against the chimeras, it would be very hard. I would have to get close enough to charge; but if I could get the units into assault range with the vechiles, I could use the MBs on the scouts and they would have 12 s5 attacks which would be quite effective against side armour. Obviously, I 'd also have the vindicare and the eversor.

I think that it will be very much dependent on deployment to get my units into positions where they can get early charges off without getting blasted off the table in the first turn.

Eh, I'd stick to Scouts with Bolters. They're a bit more versatile, and the rending special rule will give them some shooting against vehicles.

Like I said above, if you must run 4 Assassins in 750, I think your list is the best way to do it.

At 750 points flyers are more of a liability so don't worry about them.

Consider a Combined Arms Detachment to give the Scouts Objective Secured. Not sure if the HQ tax is worth it though.
