My latest battle report is up on my blog. This week, my White Scars tournament army takes on a Space Marine Deathstar list that is not for the faint of heart. http://standwargaming.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/battle-report-64-1850-pts-white-scars.html

Now that is the kind of game that will make you lose heart.
I've pretty much given up taking tournaments seriously because of armies like that, when they're so far outside of what I want to play and practically invincible against what I do play that there's no joy and little point in trying to compete with them. It's a bizarre situation where it looks like a game, it sounds like a game, but it's not a game - it's a soulless, hour-long interlude of dice-rolling before you can get back to the parts of your life that actually have meaning.
That aside, thanks for sharing. I always enjoy your battle reports, and your blog in general.

Cheers, much appreciated!
Yeah, those sort of games are a bit disheartening. I did know what I was in for before we started playing, but it still doesn't make it any more fun.

The last tournament I attended I got matched up against a demon army that I knew was going to table me. I play a semi-competitive Space Marine army, a touch softer than the armies you play but not a pushover against most opponents, but I knew that I stood no chance against the 2+ invulnerable saves with rerolls, multiple flying monstrous creatures, and dozens of psychic dice. I actually considered conceding rather than play the pointless game, but I figured I should play it out and not be a jerk.
I got tabled on the top of turn three, having killed one squad of Horrors and a few miscellaneous models. It was just a strange experience and honestly I don't know what I should do against armies and opponents like that. I have no interest in playing or collecting the kinds of armies that can compete on that level so I don't know where that leaves me. Should I just stop going to tournaments? Should I keep on going and hope to avoid bad matches and place on occasion, like I have been? It's all very odd, like these armies exist apart from what I consider 'real' 40K and yet somehow render all of my experiences and efforts invalid.
Anyway, sorry for the philosophizing, but the insane skew armies are a problem I've wrestled with but have yet to make peace with.

I still enjoy going to tournaments, though I tend to go to a lot more of the "fun" ones. There have only been a few games out of all of them where I have been really disheartened from the very beginning of the game. Kill Points against a Necron Decurion with wraithstar and some really nasty Eldar lists are the first that spring to mind. Other than that, I tend to enjoy going, I think lists like the one I played are an anomaly in many games. I just don't see how that could be fun for either player most of the time.

Hey Saber, as someone who plays that daemon army. Sorry about that. For a long time I played green tide and all I wanted was to be top ork and usually was. So after it was deleted I switched to straight daemons and playing the hardest list possible. I always feel bad when I play someone with a list that can't hurt mine first round of a tournament. This past weekend I started playing against an armored company player who had a similar experience as you.
The problem is that I'm very glad I brought that list when I get my next round opponent of 4 riptides with marker light drones and 50 spawned pirahna drones. He cleared 200 shots at me in one turn. If my screamer star had only had a 2+ with no re-rolls, he would have obliterated it.
A 2+ invul!
So I agree with you, the game is a little silly now.
