While not a frequent visitor of the forum, I felt that this was the most sensible place to post the pictures of the Imperial Assault minis I've been commissioned to paint by my girlfriend's work colleague.

I agreed to do the Stormtroopers first for some insane reason, not thinking for a moment that I might end up regretting it. These have been a total pain in the arse; partly because I just haven't had the time to devote to them, but mostly because painting all this crisp white is stupidly tedious. Anyway, below you will find the results. I think they're alright. Not my best work, but I agreed to do them for £20, like a gosh-darn idiot, so I feel the results are worth the price.

Painting this much crisp white was not fun. First I thought that the thing to do would be to spray the minis with gloss white, then use a black wash to get all the panel gaps. I later learned that I'd have been much better-off just lining in the gaps myself, because that ended up giving a much deeper, cleaner line. I just wish I had worked that out after one miniature, rather than six.

While the rulebook (if I remember correctly) recommends that three Stormtroopers be designated elites, the owner requested six; three in red and three in blue. This gave me a little more variety with the painting, but it honestly didn't improve my enthusiasm much. I decided to do the bases in gloss black to simulate the floors on the Death Star

Let me know what you think. I'm expecting a commission to do the rest of the models in August. Hopefully I'll have a lot more time then, so it might not take so long, or be quite as irritating.Watch this space.

Nice work, certainly well worth the £20! I recently bought the IA box set with the specific intention of painting up the figures, and I agree these are the figures I look forward to painting the least.
