Hola! I was just thinking while making lists, that there is still nothing stopping you from taking units from any faction/GA that you want as long as you meet the Battleline and Leader reqs...you wont get your allegiance bonuses or artifacts, and the synergy would be crap...but if I am understanding it (can't find the pdfs) there is nothing stopping you from doing it. Has anyone else thought of going against the grain of factions with sub-factions and allegiances to just mixing Orrucks with a Treelord and a Hellcannon with Nagash as the leader?

Please correct me if I'm wrong and you have to stay at least within the same GA, can't find the pdfs anywhere :(

I haven't seen this inside the GHB yet (and have quickly looked for it twice), but I have been told you have to stick to a GA for Matched Play.

There is a section on "points-only-games" where you use the point values but ignore all other restrictions, so like 40k unbound. I would say if you have a cool thematic army go for it, but if it's a horrible mix of models theme wise people aren't going to enjoy the game unless you're both playing with the objective of who can bring the most whacked out filth.

Lol I hear ya, definitely not something I can even pull off at the moment, would be fun to mish-mash couple armies together though and still be legal in the confines of points...hey, since you have access to the book, do Warscrolls Battalions superced the battleline reqs? Much like formations in 40k can be taken outside the force org charts...

Just wondering, as I've said, there are parts in the leaks mentioning that each battlefield role has a description earlier in the book...everyone was so caught up in "what are the points?" that no one bothered actually asking what Behemoth, Artillery, Battleline, and Warscroll battalions mean as Battlefield roles. I get we have the 1-X leaders and 1-x Battlelines, 0-X Behemoths and 0-X Artillery...but what do those roles entail? Can't be content thinking they are just restrictions with no other "special rules" (i.e. Battleline are the only Obj Secured? Not the same but you get my drift?)...please let us know if those descriptions have any bearing or if its plain as day and what we've seen so far is exactly how it is.

Like, can I take the Free Spirits Battalion for my 1k points army? The way we know things now...no, because you need Battleline reqs...but if Warscroll Battalions don't care (ala formations 40k) then we could play with them without caring for battleline...

From what I have read in the book so far, formations (warscroll battalions) do not bypass any requirements so you still need Battleline. (They do give you an extra magic weapon choice though) and the unit roles mean nothing beyond the restrictions. I have not yet read all 6 scenarios in detail yet though.

Apparently there are some scenarios that only Leaders can score in. And one where you stagger deployment starting with just your Battleline units, so they do have some roles. I will look a bit more closely at the scenarios today and report back :-)
