Heresy era tech:
Just a silly idea I had when putting together the Contemptor from the Betrayal at Calth box:
A pattern of weapon becoming rare in the late crusade not due to any particular difficulty in manufacturing them but rather because of the relative simplicity and greater reliabilityp of constructing their ultimate replacement, the lascannon, the Kheres HAW still finds favour with those legions that prefer the more subtle approach, though subtle is a relative term when one is talking about a rifle larger than a man that fires a hypersonic projectile. Drawing a lot from the design of its rapid firing counterpart, the Assault Cannon, to the point of using identical ammunition and much of the same loading mechanism and housing, the most obvious difference is the barrel configuration; a single pair of barrels rotate around an axis, swapping over between shots. Less obvious but more vital is the locking stabilisation mechanism that holds the barrel in place during firing, before the mechanism 'flips' and re-locks with a distinctive whirr-kerchunk noise. This additional stabilisation, combined with closer manufacturing tolerances and the thermal stabilisation afforded by swapping barrels between shots allows the Kheres HAW to fire with unprecedented accuracy and power, effectively becoming a vehicle-sized sniper weapon.
Kheres HAW:
Range: 48" S:X AP:2 Type: Ordnance 2, Armourbane, Hypervelocity*
* Hypervelocity: Always wounds on a 3+ regardless of target's toughness, rolls of a six to hit are Precision Shots, counts as S:6 when rolling to penetrate armour.
Adding the Kheres pattern Hypervelocity Anti-materiel Weapon to your games: Any model that can take a Kheres pattern Assault Cannon can take a Kheres HAW for 25pts. In addition, any Mortis Contemptor dreadnoughts my buy a twin-linked pair of them (one on each arm) for 30pts
As for modelling; take the plastic assault cannon from your B@C box and simply assemble it without the additional barrels, then add the biggest sniper scope you can find to the main housing and cable it up to the dreadnought's body.
FAQ: Ordnance plus armourbane? How do? Armourbane now simply adds a further D6 to penetration rolls. So roll your 2d6 for Ordnance, pick the highest, then roll another and add that too.
BONUS: B@C stats:
Kheres HAW; Shoot 4; Critical: Any shields in your attack roll count as hits, hits can only be saved on blanks instead of shields.
