...so I can write up a paper for my Grad class. Can I do that here in Off-topic? Can I post a survey link here as well? Its an anonymous Google forms survey BTW.

I read the Off-topic rules, and STF, but no love for my searching skilz.

TIA.

I doubt surveys breach the rules. I'e seen plenty of people posting surveys on Dakka. Though I suppose it would depend on the content.

Its about Internet use. Generic questions.

Mostly My take on it is that people waste time, and school-age kids waste more time. Soooo, having Internet at home doesn't help kids get better grade.

In all seriousness, I don't see this as being a breach of the site rules as long as it remains here and not somewhere like the Dakka Polls (which are hobby related)

Do you want people who aren't from America to fill this one out? I have no idea how the school grading system works there

I filled it out for you, but like I said I don't know the grading system in the US so I guessed that I did "some college" (I just finished A Levels if that means anything to you)

I would say for questions like "people who use the internet are more likely to get into trouble at school" that I was very confused - correlation doesn't always equal causation, and I think the link between internet usage and behaviour at school is debatable. For most of those I just ticked neutral.

Hope you got what you needed

Every bit helps.

I see a LOT of fights and arguments at school, and almost all of them started on FB or IG. Usually over dumb stuff that wouldn't be confusing at all if the people involved were actually together when they were talking about whatever. my 1 cent.

I was at school just before social media became huge. All we had at the time was Myspace and early Facebook, really, and FB was used mainly to just bulk 'like' random pages.

For the questions themselves, primarily the last two blocks, I feel that they were all really too subjective and vacuum-sealed to definitively answer either way. For example, when I was at school, I had internet access, didn't work hard, procrastinated a lot, and was unsocial; I was, however, also heavily depressed at the time, so I don't feel that the presence of internet access was the reason behind any of it.

I really don't feel qualified to definitively answer those questions either way.

If it helps you out, I've had a fairly rich and let's say diverse education; I noticed that most fighting within schoolmates would be when we were aged 7-10, verbal and physical. When I moved out to Dubai to finish primary school, there were a fair amount of fights between people (must have been 10 years old at the time). That school was full of kids though, was more like a public school scenario than the private school it was.

When I reached secondary school, I still had nothing like FB or IG - I would only use the internet at home for casual browsing. Didn't stop me from being one of the biggest trouble makers Dubai English Speaking College has ever seen though - I got more detentions there than I can count on 2 sets of hands

Then I moved to Qatar and things died down mostly; by that time I had an FB account I used regularly, but was actually taking studies more seriously. I definitely procrastinated a lot during that time, and my homework was rarely in on time as a result. I attribute this more to just a general attitude to not want to work at home than my internet usage.

My last year of school this year was done at a learning centre in the central Doha area with some of the most lax school rules you've ever seen. Students only needed to turn up to the classes they had that day and that's it; the internet was in abundance, and students could smoke outside if they wanted to (think I was one of the only students there who didn't smoke). Teachers also didn't chase you if homework was not handed in or if you didn't attend. However this was when I focused most, although when I got a little stressed out I would use the internet a lot to chill out.

Dunno if any of that will be helpful for you, but from my experience most fights were done face to face and were only extended using social media. That being said, I did see a teacher being bullied by students on social media one time; that was interesting to say the least.

Sorry that was an awful lot, but perhaps you can use it for something. I would agree though that a lot of people these days start crap online, and it spreads like wildfire. Rumour spreading was never very common till now I'd say.

There's some vague recollection of it in the back of my mind. Not sure if I forgotten about it, or repressed it.

You're much older than me though, so no, no idea about Bebo; outside of MSN social media only came into my life at around age 13/14

Noting every time your crush logged on, and strategically having "Show what I'm listening to" turned on to coincide with it. Plus those weird ~\/\=#={Name}=#=/\/~ things scattered with love heart and music note emoticons and stuff.

God, I don't miss MSN.

I listened to stuff that would have been considered total garbage by my peers when I was a kid like the Beatles. Isn't it funny that I've never really had a girlfriend?

And yeah, I don't miss it either. Still makes me laugh plenty thinking about it though

Team chat on Team Fortress Classic mainly. At least, that was my main use for it.

I had AIM, barely used MySpace, and Facebook had its time of day...then gets largely ignored. I have it. But don't use it much.

Most of my internet time these days is either work based, Dakka, walking dead discussions, or searching out miniatures I'm interested in.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.
