Hi everyone,
I recently attended the Caledonian Revolution tournament. It was a great weekend, with 5 very tough games of 40k. My list for the event was:
My army consisted of:
Scarblade Strike Force
Hunting Force
Khan- Moondrakken (with CS)
Command Squad- Bikes, Apothecary, 4 grav guns, 4 storm shields, Banner of the Eagle ( CS)
6 Bikers- 2 grav guns, sergeant with power axe and meltabombs (BS1)
6 Bikers- 2 grav guns, sergeant with meltabombs (BS2)
Attack Bike- Multimelta ( AB)
6 Scout Bikers- 2 Grenades launchers, sergeant with meltabombs and homing beacon ( SB)
Stormbringer Squadron
5 Scouts- bolt pistols, combat weapons, sergeant with meltabombs (S1)
Landspeeder Storm- Heavy Bolter, Cerberus Launcher (LS1)
Landspeeder- Multimelta, Typhoon Missile Launcher (L)
Combined Arms Detachment
Chaplain- Bike, Hunter's Eye, Meltabombs (with CS or C2)
5 Scouts- Bolters, sergeant with meltabombs (S2)
Landspeeder Storm- Heavy Bolter, Cerberus Launcher (LS2)
3 Bikers- 2 meltaguns, sergeant with meltabombs (BS3)
3 Centurions- Grav cannons and grav amps, hurricane bolters (C)
Drop Pod ( DP)
Stormhawk Interceptor- TL assault cannon, Skyhammer missile launcher, Las-talon ( SI)
My first game was against Sid with his Tau Riptide wings, Grey Knights and Assassin. You can find the battle report at http://standwargaming.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/caledonian-revolution-2016-game-1-white.html
The Second game is now up on the blog. My White Scars take on some Necrons over control of the Relic. http://standwargaming.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/caledonian-revolution-2016-game-2-white.html
Game 3 of the recent tournament sees a bike off, as my White Scars take on some Dark Angels Ravenwing. http://standwargaming.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/caledonian-revolution-2016-games-3.html
Battle report 4 of the tournament now up. My White Scars take on some Imperial Knights, a Conclave and some daemons (fluffy players avert your gaze now). http://standwargaming.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/caledonian-revolution-2016-game-4-white.html
Final battle report of the recent tournament that I attended. My White Scars take on a ton of Tyranids. http://standwargaming.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/caledonian-revolution-2016-game-5-white.html

Another joyless tournament army, eh? I recently had the pleasure of playing against something similar and I was more offended by the lack of personality than the power of the army. It's not an impossible army to beat, though it is an awful lot of guns.

Cheers! Yeah, it was a total tournament list for sure. Automatically Appended Next Post: Saber wrote:Another joyless tournament army, eh? I was expecting some very hard lists and crazy combinations at the tournament to be honest. I thought my own army was pretty strong going in, but still quite thematic for a White Scars force. It can be nice to strike that balance sometimes. Automatically Appended Next Post: The Second game is now up on the blog. Yes, there's nothing wrong with taking a nasty list to a tournament that is supposed to feature nasty lists. Part of the fun of the event, though I wouldn't want every game to be like that.
Your army is decently powerful too, but as it is identifiably a White Scars army with White Scars stuff that makes it a lot more palatable.

Thanks for the reports!
I think in the last game against Tyranids you would have been much better off selecting the two winged tyrants as the primary and secondary target (should be fine, they are both HQs) and the thropes as the tertiary. I think your target priority was off, the centurions should have alpha striked the tyrants, their firepower and the tactical initiative was wasted firing on respawning gaunts. With average rolls and the hunters eye the cents should kill both flyrants on the drop (rerollable everything, no armor or cover save against grav) using the split fire you could have taken down both flyrants first turn on the ground.
After that the game would have been easy, the 2 flyrants were around 500 points, 50% of his synapse, 66% of his psychic support and 100% of his anti air and rapid mobility. Your cents probably would have survived the gaunt retaliation but even if they didn't, that is an advantageous trade. I always read your reports and I really enjoy them, it seemed at this tournament you were less aggressive than usual, and it cost you. I mean the entire army is designed as an HQ killing decapitation force, but I think you were just a tad too cautious and didn't play it that way. I really enjoyed reading about your tournament though, I think you have a very entertaining army.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

I agree, the Flyrants would have been a much better target for my hunting force, helping me to bring them down later in the game. I don't know if the photos and maps show it too well, but there was no way my Centurions could have alpha-struck the flyrants. The Gaunt units covered his entire deployment zone and there was nowhere to bring down the drop pod to get in range of his backfield units.
Yeah, I think I was a bit less aggressive for some reason. This really caused me to suffer in game 1, where I should have been in his face from turn 1.
I was fairly aggressive in game 2 against the Necrons, but still a little cautious of the Wraithstar. Last time I went full on against a wraithstar in a tournament, it did not end well for me.
In game 3, I planned to be very aggressive and take out his bikers with my grav, but getting seized on caused me to re-evaluate my battle plan.
As I said in game 4, I could have potentially won the game on turn 1 if I had risked going after the Conclave with my army in force. I was a bit wary though of failing and getting tabled by the Knights.
Game 5 started off very aggressive, but at potentially the wrong targets as you have said. I slaughtered many of the Gaunts, but with the Endless Swarm, it did not make too much difference. My plan was to keep killing Gaunt units and keep them confined to their own deployment zone, allowing me to wrack up maelstrom points and end of game objectives, but one good shooting phase by my opponent put an end to that.
Glad you enjoyed the reports. The army was a bit of a change from my usual one, as I don't normally go heavy for formations. It was an interesting one to play and I look forward to trying out some more of the formations.

Thanks. I didn't realize that about the gaunt spacing, although it is logical. Just glancing at the maps I thought you had a central gap to get through. Your army influenced my latest bike build a lot although it's only at 1500 right now and I use a librarian conclave and hunting force with chapter master instead of Khan. I find that the conclave + chapter master build has been buffed very strong by geomancy, since it's very easy to keep the wounds topped off on all the characters and phase form with the hunters eye gives 2 units ignores cover, and the primaris is great against hordes. An average roll of Chasm on that gaunt horde would have killed 3 from every unit, which starts to add up for a dumb wc 1 primaris

I've not tried the Librarius conclave yet (mostly due to lack of models), but have played against it many times and seen how powerful it can be. I will need to try and make some room in my list for it to give it a go.
