Hey everyone! This is mainly a copy paste from a post I made on my store's facebook game page so I may have a few obvious set up/rules stated that did not need to be (trying to bring in new players after all). Annnnyways this morning we had a Warhammer 40k game held in the back of the LGS I work at. A buddy and I played a 1500 point game on a 4'x4' table (next time I play vs orks a 4x6 would be much more preferable lol).
Army List Orkz:
2 Warboss'
1 Warboss (warlord) in mega armor
9 Nobz w/ Boss Nob
26 Ork Boyz
25 Ork Boyz
10 Tank Bustas w/ Trukk (designated transport)
10 Grotz w/ Runt Herder
5 Storm Boyz
Army List Nercons:
1 Necron Overlord w/ Nightmare Shroud (warlord)
10 Immortals
10 Warriors w/ Ghost Ark (designated transport)
10 Warriors
2 Annihaltion Barges
1 Doomsday Ark
7 Scarabs
10 Deathmarks (in Reserve)
3 Destroyers (in Reserve)
We both started by agreeing to play 'Tactical Objectives' style map each with an objective deck to use each turn. Next we rolled to see who went first (I rolled a 2 with the Ork rolling a 1). Following that we took turns placing terrain, then the 6 objectives (marking each 1-6). Once the board was set, I deployed my units onto my table side first then the Ork player did his. With everything set the game began.
Turn 1 Orkz: The Ork player rolled to steal the initiative and succeeded, allowing him to go first. He proceeded to move his Orkz as far up the board as possible, sacrificing his chances to fire at my Necrons. Though the sight of how close that many Orkz closing the distance on the first turn is very frightening. By deploying 2nd yet going first, the Ork player had the upper hand. A trukk with Orkz who's specialty is destroying vehicles moving to within shooting distance of my main artillery cannon on the first turn... bad news.
Turn 1 Necrons: I start this turn and each to follow with my Doomsday Ark. The only weapon I have that uses large blast templates. I place it over his warlord, roll the scatter dice and get a direct hit. 7 wounds successfully rolled, 4 'look out sir!s' in response before instant killing the warlord. Next an Annhilation Barge shoots the trukk and destroys it via hull point damage leaving 10 tank bustas free on turn 2 to wreck me. My Overlord and Immortals desimate his Storm boyz as well. With only 3 volleys fired and so much damage done I figured this game would be easy... until I started shooting with my warriors. 20-30% of my shots succeed to force the Ork player to armor save (his orkz are all upgraded with 4+ armor to protect vs my Gauss's armor peircing) followed by maaaaybe 1 casualty per volley. Turn 2 left much cringing to follow.
Turn 2 Orkz: Tank bustas fire rockets in retaliation at the Annhilation barge near them, destroy it in one volley for 3 hull point damage. Opposite edge Boyz charge the scarabs and decimate them. Nobz charge the Overlord and Immortals, followed by my Necron Overlord issuing a challenge against the boss Nob to stop the Ork player from getting too many attacks on them. Almost lose my Overlord in the first trade of blows.
Turn 2 Necrons: This turn was so bad for me. First it looked great! My Deathmarks arrive with a bullseye on their deepstrike (Destroyers fail to enter). Every shot was 80% rolled as a 1 or 2. The image of dice is a perfect example; 20 shots from my Deathmarks on some Boyz, 3 dice hit (Still can not believe it). The shots that do hit had Orks rolling saves of 5 and 6s with maaaaybe a 4 here and there, which still saves. Needless to say there was maybe 1 casualty on the Orkz side that shooting phase and it was probably the Doomsday Arks blast missing by 4".
Turn 3 Orkz: The highlight of this half of the turn after the Ork player calls his 'Waaagh!' is the Boyz that the Deathmarks shot at turn around and charge them along with the Grotts helping. 2 Deathmarks survive, panic and flee. The second group of Boyz charge a squad of Warriors by Objective 1. The Tank bustas roll poorly this round and only glance the Doomsday Ark for 1 hull point damage (3 left).
Turn 3 Necrons: Reserves continue not to enter. Deathmarks recover and move away from the other necrons in hopes to bait the large mass of Boyz out of a turn or two to reach the front lines again. The Overlord barely survives a 3rd melee with the Nob Boss. Warriors slowly decrease in numbers against the Boyz. Doomsday Ark takes out 6 of the Boyz chasing the Deathmarks.
Turn 4 Orkz: The Ork player gets bloodlust in his tactics and continues to chase the Deathmarks wiping them from the board with his warboss. and many Boyz. Tank Bustas miss the Doomsday Ark completely. 2nd group of Boyz destroy 2-3 more warriors in melee combat. Nobz lose their combat and flee the melee, rolling a tie for 'Sweeping Advance' having the Immortals wipe them from the board.
Turn 4 Necrons: Destroyers automatically come in via Reserve into enemy territory shooting at the baited Boyz wounding 2 maybe.Annhilation Barge remove remaining Tank Bustas from the board. Doomsday Ark fires and baited Boyz for a few more casaulties. 2nd group of Warriors charge the Boyz already fighting other Warriors. Immortals fire at the baited boyz for roughly 0 casualties.
Turn 5: Orkz concede due to the large lead in points by this point of the game (10 Necrons v 4 Orkz) with little turns left to allow the orks to table the necrons.
Hands shake, good game stated. Hope you guys enjoyed the read.
