I'd recommend checking out this forum:

Based on your listed location, Game Depot is probably your best bet for a local FLGS-base. But there are other stores on the west side of the valley like Imperial Outpost.

DiRTWaL were you able to find a good place for gaming? I just found out I'm going to be heading to the Phoenix area soon and I want to find a good gaming group as well.

Hey there guys, I live in Phoenix and am part of a gaming group (mostly on in the Gilbert/Tempe/Mesa area) that games about 2-3 times a month and are in the process of starting up a campaign if you guys are interested.

If you're on the West side of town and/or can't commit to a campaign right now, I am in the Phoenix/Glendale area and wouldn't mind coordinating a couple pick-up games.

Drop me a PM if you're interested!

I would recommend going to the GW store in Scottsdale. The owners ( 3 that I know of) are nice and do their best to help out with rules clarification. There are events there but are usually limited to 0-3 each month.
