I'm going to be playing some games against my friends and I want some feedback on some lists. They both play marines and they will probably field a bunch of tacticals. I am new to 40k but I used to play fantasy about 12 years ago.

In terms of models, I have the start collecting necrons but I made 4 scarabs from the box. I also have 5 immortals.

Option 1:
Retribution Phalanx (500pts)
4x Canoptek Scarab
Overlord with Phase Shifter, Phylactery, Staff of Light, The Nightmare Shroud
Triarch Stalker with Twin-Linked Heavy Gauss Cannon
10x Necron Warrior with Gauss

The Overlord is pricy but I figure they will throw everything at killing him.

Option 2:
Cad: 503 points

3x Canoptek Scarab
Overlord with Staff of Light
Triarch Stalker with Twin-Linked Heavy Gauss Cannon
11x Necron Warrior with Gauss
5x Immortals with Gauss

A more balanced force with the points spread more evenly across units but less resilient.

I am hoping to get feedback on which direction to take the list and also on which gear options to take on my units. Keep in mind that I only own a limited number of models and I am not planning on buying more until I finish painting these ones to a high level. I don't know what type of game we will be playing.

At 500 the Retribution Phalanx is the way to go. Overlords with Warscythes are close combat baddies. A common load out is Warscythe and Phase Shifter with an added Phylactery and/or Gauntlet of Fire if you have the points. On Stalkers, the Heat Ray is the best weapon. It has two profiles that can wreck any target the Heavy Gauss Cannon can only better.

Agree with the above. Retribution phalanx is the way to go. However as you get to higher points there are a ton of things that can kill an overlord with a warsythe. That being said deathstars like a royal court with orikan and lychguard is pretty damn unkillable.

Also for later tomb blades are great.

I swapped out the gear like you suggested. It seems like I can take the gauntlet if I take 11 Warriors and 3 scarabs. I will go without it in the first game and take more troops then see how it goes.

I am almost done my painting, I just need to finish my immortals and the gun on the Stalker. After that I will definitely get some tomb blades and probably another box of Warriors.
