Hello, first time player coming out of tallahassee fl.
Never played before but played all the video games and love the lore.
Yes i know this game is expensive but its nothing compared to my reef tank or car haha.
I was recommended to buy the starter pack for around 100$. But then i was reading some pages from google searches and it said pick your army based on what you like when you see it. If i get the starter pack then i am stuck with the 2 armies. Are those armies any good and would you advise against putting those armies to the side and buying the army i like?

any pages or guides would help. very excited.

Really leaning towards Tau and thinking of skipping the starter pack and buying the book off amazon then the start collecting tau collection

Welcome to the hobby newcomer!

Are we talking about 40K here? If you are then I'm assuming you're talking about Dark Vengeance; it's a great set to get started for small games with a friend and to test your painting skills, and can be expanded upon easily enough. However, Chaos Space Marines don't fare too well in current meta as far as I'm aware.

You shouldn't let that faze you though - buy whatever army appeals to you as you said, not what army is the best. However, if you're looking for armies that are currently in good stride, Tau, Eldar and Space Marines are in right now.

Hope this helps

Happy hunting!

That's a good idea; those Start Collecting sets are very good value. They also contain all the rules you need to field them straight from the box, so you don't necessarily need the Codex. I'd get the smaller rulebook off eBay that comes in DV, and maybe some paints and tools for your miniatures first

Hope you enjoy!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
