I am having a hard time figuring out how to build my army using all the new decurions and formations. I know how the standard detachments work, but lets say i want to add some formations. I use a combined arms detachment and add a formation containing some characters. Can i then use the characters in that formation as my HQ slot in my detachment or do I have to have additional chars for that? So my question is, do the units in formations "count" towards how many units i can include in my detachment?

Also. I plan on starting a Daemon army using the new Daemonic incursion. As I understand it, the incursion will be my primary detachment. If I want to add lets say a single soulgrinder after my core and auxilliary choices. Can i just do that or do i have to add a whole new detachment with a HQ and two troops?

Firstly, welcome to Dakka!

If you have both a Combined Arms (CAD) and a Formation, the two are separate entities and the models in the Formation do not take up any slots in the CAD. This means both that you still need a HQ choice for the CAD, and that you are not limited by the maximums (i.e. you could have 2 HQs in the CAD, and have more HQs in the Formation, without breaking any limit).

If you are using the "Decurion-style" Detachments, you are limited to taking from the Command, Core and Aux choices for that Detachment, but you can still have other Detachments (i.e. a CAD) in addition to the Incursion. If you just had the Incursion plus a Soulgrinder (I'm assuming that it's not just an Aux choice for that?) then the army becomes Unbound. If you put the Soulgrinder into a CAD (so you have the Incursion + CAD) then you are back being Battle-forged.

Many thanks!
