It's my first game ever of 30k tomorrow. I wanted to get some tips to make sure my list is ok.

I've never really played 40k either so I'm not sure what I should be bringing to games.

I have a Calth contemptor with Kheres and ccw.

Kurze on the way as well for an Apoc match.

Really hoping for some direction here chaps as I'm an old 8th Warhammer player and firmly in an AoS mindset at the moment.

Not just on the list itself I suppose but how to go about deploying these fellas, especially with the infiltrate on the Terror Squads.

For the Command Squad I'd suggest swapping the Power Weapons for the Nostroman Chainglaive, they cost exactly the same and you lose out on 1 Attack for +1 Strength and Rending. Infact you should probably lose the Single Lightning Claw for another Chain Glaive.

Ya know when you have opportunity to model them.

Oh and if you are running the Rite of War that allows Terror Squads as troops you need a Third Terror Squad.

That would be a really nice fluff addition on the command squad. Can probably model them easily enough with grey Knights and chainswords.

Dang a third terror squad, thought two was all I needed for compulsory. I don't have any errors come up when I list them into Battlescribe. But that is battlescribe...

What would you recommend to swap out, run a basic 5 man and trim the other two squads down?

Yeah, probably slim the other squads down a bit. That would be easiest with out having to remodel terminators and HWS

I got smasheddddd in my last match.

Effectively tabled on turn three.

My infiltrating squads were pounded by a Scorpius, and squads with Nuncio vox's from the start. Losing chunks from my heavy weapons support squad.

When my drop pod with Sevetar and command squad came in, they were then buggered by the Vindicator.

As such I've altered my list:

What RoW are you using? I presume the Terror Assault one, at which point the list still isnt legal as you need 3 Terror Squads, since it makes Terror Squads into Compulsory Troops and requires you to have at Third Compulsory Troops choice.

Bollocks, battle scribe only lists two so I keep forgetting.

Do you mind sharing the wording on the RoW?

Is it in the crusade army list or age of darkness book?

I've updated my list accordingly.

It should be in both the AoD book and Book 2. But you've found it already.

Also I would suggest Volkite on the Terror Squads as you want them charging and to have a chance to out number the opposing Squads when in CC.

I'm not sure where else I can shave off the points.

I love Sevetar for fluff, but maybe hes just to expensive, when I can get a Praetor in Cata armour to boost my termies?

To then add in the Volkite chargers.

Try losing the Spartan for a 1500 Point Game, pick up the 3rd Terror Squad, drop Sevatar for a Delegatus with a Chain Glaive, pick up Volkites on the Terror Squads and likely Glaives on the Headsmen so they hit harder.

Look at replacing the CataTermies with TartoTermies as them being able to sweeping advance would help the Night Lords with their desire to be in close.

Out of curiosity what are you facing mostly?

I got a little further this match.

He was certainly scared of the Venator.

Speaking with the guys in store, and the manager all of which are very friendly.

I need to trim down on the bigger point sinks certainly for 1.5k. Like dropping the spartan. Working on an alternate list for the weekend.

Though was the Consul a Delegatus?

I can't remember 100%, but I'm fairly certain he mentioned it was a Delegatus.

My opponents a fairly long term 40k player so he knows what hes doing. I on the other hand need more time to get the swing of it.

Ah, just making sure because if its any other Consul he can't run a RoW.

Have you considered the Chainglaive on the Apothecaries? They cost the same as the Power Sword but in my mind are better, +1S and Rending out weigh the loss of 1 attack.

Ask your self, "How useful will my Meltaguns be?" how much Armored Ceramite do you usually come across?

Just out of curiosity but do people go paragon blades or chainglaives on there Praetors? and what does one have over the other?

Paragon Blades for the +1S and AP2 Specialist Weapon with a chance for instant death, Chain glaive is +1S AP3 with Rending and Two Handed.

Paragon Blade is better for a CC Praetor who is the only one really that can take them in the Legion forces.

I'd give the Chainglaives to just about anyone else. Also a good thing about the Glaives, is that they can be taken by anyone with access to a Power Weapon and they cost the same as a Power Weapon.
