Heya Folks!

Wanted to let everybody know of a 40k GT event happening this year for the 2nd Time: The Annual DragonFall GT! This is a fun, friendly based tournament running in its second year. I'm helping to post it for a buddy of mine who is running it, Mike Lagger. It is happening October 15-16th, 2016 in Chicago, IL!

Held in Chicago suburb of St. Charles, this multi-system event will run two days. Tournaments will include Warhammer 40k, Kings of War, Bolt Action, X-wing, Infinity, 9th Age, and Arena Rex.
So what's the draw of this tournament, as opposed to any others this year?

An ITC Event: We are an ITC sanctioned event, so you can earn ITC points and play your ITC lists here! We will be using the ITC FAQ and ITC missions.

40k Bingo:
Throughout the weekend, you will have access to a Warhammer 40k Bingo Card. There are multiple spots which you can fill out as you play, from things like playing another army of the same faction to buying your opponent a drink. Fill out five in a row and you'll get a prize, with multiple prizes available!

Bad Luck, Great idea:
Do your dice constantly fail you? Well, here, that's a good thing. We will have a list of crazy 40k related happenstances, like failing a 3" charge, having your warlord die on the very first, or getting the initiative seized on your three times in a row! These are just a few examples, and we have many more. Have ANY of these happen to you.... and you'll get a prize!

Prove your superiority: Of course, great generals and painters and sportsmen won't be left hanging either. There will be MASSIVE, custom-made, dragon-shaped trophies available for the best painters, generals, and overalls (which you can see as a work in progress below). In addition, if you are the BEST in your faction, whether it be the Orks or the Eldar, you will also receive a prize!

Amazing Conversions: Mike Butcher created a custom-made Chaos army last year which was given out as a prize. This year he's doing the same with some awesome looking Space Marine conversions that will be given out as a raffle! You can see examples of his previous work below (and upcoming work) below.

Location: Chicago is centrally located and easy to reach via flight. The resort where Dragon Fall is being held, Pheasant Run, is super nice, with live entertainment venues, a golf course, tennis courts, two pools, a hot tub, and a health spa all right at our beautiful countryside resort. Bring your spouse and kids if you want! Check it out: http://www.pheasantrun.com/

For the remainder of August, the price for entry is reduced by 10%, and tickets are selling fast, so buy them soon. Check it out, and we hope to see you there!

What are you doing to remedy the disaster that was last years list checking system and army comp?

I'm really weary to come back after being told my list wasn't fluffy (and that I wasn't allowed to play it) and then drawing an Ork death star allied with Renegade Guard.

It looks like ITC list comp - I can't imagine your catching grief for non-fluffy ness if the list is ITC legal. Sportsmanship score on the other hand, perhaps don't expect the highest rating - but that sadly seems true at most tournaments.

Considering visiting this one, love the trophy and prize shots so far!

This is actually a really relevant question. I'd like to hear it answered before I go through the steps involved with attending an out of state event.

I didn't see anything on this year's posting about their being a "friendly comp/list". Last year had that. For 2016, they just seem to be using the ITC system.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes- this year we are using the ITC format. Feel free and bring your favorite Net list.

HOWEVER- we are developing an incentive system to bring unusual lists that normally don't see the table.

Call it a Mr. Unconventional Award and Bonus system.

In addition- we are going to be giving everyone a 40K Bingo sheet. If bad things happen to you- ie failed a 3 inch charge, General sucked into the warp, getting seized on multiple games in a row, you will check off the box in Bingo for additional prize support.

Sports will also give you an incentive not to be a tool.

To sum up, last year we started this with the idea of having a fun event with "Friendly Games." Overall feedback was positive, and people gave us huge props for our terrain and custom mats that we developed. This year we are taking it to the next level. We have room for more players, and the ITC format is the way for us to attract more interest in our event.
But we will not forget our roots. With incentives to field armies that are not standard, and sports/ comp being an important factor.... we hope to have struck the right balance:

Competitive Fun Games.

I hope that helps answer some of your questions. Feel free to PM me questions.

I mostly like the changes but honestly I really do still have a bad taste from the absolute mess army building was along with the price, so its up in the air if I return.

On a side note I was looking for the prices for this year and it was impossible to find, you need a register now button in your header.

You will be missed.

We can't be all things to all people, and hopefully you can understand the learning curve associated with our hosting our first GT last year.

This year we have made efforts to correct some of the feedback we received. We believe that we have the best path forward to have a Competitive, Fun event.

Best,

Mike

If you could Mike, it would be really re-assuring to hear the comp rules (including if they are just ITC Comp) the event price, and any expected house/friendly rules. Considering clearly last year had a few road bumps. Like most I'd hate to travel out there just to have a crummy experience due to some unknown rules.

We have decoupled the Mike Butcher conversion army to a raffle door prize. All players who are there on day 2 are entered automatically for a chance to win.

Price for the event is $40.00 10% off remains through August. For the amount of prize support and awards that we have, we feel this is a reasonable price, and is in line with other events in the Midwest.

We are in the process of finalizing this, and hope to have it published by next week. The bulk of the format as mentioned is ITC.
Thanks

I cannot wait for this event to happen again. The changes that are being made sound great to me. Competitive event with a focus on friendly and plus to originality why would you not want to go!

An alien threat has risen from beyond the abyss, a swarm so vast that it blots out the stars. This horror fights neither for power nor territory, but rather to fee a hunger so insatiable that it will eventually devour the entire galaxy.

Can we please get an update here? You haven't posted missions, comp restrictions, etc. on your website. Meanwhile September is coming up with a price hike in tickets and I'd like to be able to make a decision on if it's worth going while the price is still reduced.

Rules are up on the site. Also an example of the "40k Bingo" card that will be given to all players.
There will be 4-5 versions of that card, so that not everyone will have identical sheets.
10% off events through the end of the month. Sign up today!

Rules are up now, and we are almost half sold out with one one seeing the rules upto this point.
If having fun is your cup of tea, we want you at Dragon-Fall!

So if I'm reading your packet right I can't play Marines painted as Salamanders as Ultramarines, Raven Guard, etc... when they are fully wyswig but it would be okay to proxy orks as marines?

Like Raven Guard orks or like a original Ork clan?

First of call- thanks for the question, we appreciate the feedback.

So this question has 2 parts, and I will try to answer both of them. First your painting Marines and "Counting them as" another Chapter:
Our answer is this- if it is not clear what the unit is to your opponent across the table, it might not be allowed by the judges at Dragon-Fall.
If you have a Super Friends list, with different units that are not clearly identifiable, you are going to have a problem this weekend.
We take the perspective that everything should WUSIWUG to avoid confusion. (and this includes specific Chapters of Marines)

2nd Part: The "count as" Ork army fielded as marines. If you read the above and our packet, you will see that all "count as armies" must be clear and receive approval from our judges to play this weekend. Because we are not reviewing lists in advance, if you were to bring an army like this- I would bring a back up army and list. This is for the simple reason stated as above, you might not be allowed to play it.

40K is a great game because all models represented in all of the fluff, can be represented on the field. (Either from a GW model directly or from a minor conversion).
If you are going to deviate from this, have a Plan B is our suggestion.

Best,

Mike

Thanks for the question. Can you narrow your question? Lots of GW FAQ, and want to answer your question directly.

Broader answer- ITC rules are the measuring stick that will be used in the event. If there is a conflict between GW and ITC, ITC will win. (as we are fully committed to the ITC format)

GW FAQ's for specific army rules will be in effect (minus the above)

I hope that gives you some sense of what you wanted to know, if not a specific FAQ reference would be appreciated.

Best,

Mike

Cool!

It was things like how preferred enemy works in combined units, how units made of multiple factions work when combined together things like that.

Also battle brothers in transports rule is probably something you want to clarify ASAP as it is not covered in ITC but is covered in the GW FAQS.

I appreciate the feedback. We are fielding a lot of specific questions. Because of which, we will also clarify in our rules packet.

To answer these questions- Battle Brothers CAN start the game embarked on an allied transport- Our final ruling.

Preferred Enemy bonus DOES confer to the unit- per our final ruling.

I hope that helps.

People are referring to the draft gw faqs from facebook that have been coming out every wednesday for the last few months.

Something like starting in battle brothers transports is prohibited via the draft gw faq.

Flg/itc is not using the draft gw faqs. Other tournaments are. I'm still confused to the plan for dragonfall. Either way is fine really. Just need to know which one.

More clarification based on questions that we are fielding:

• Battle Brothers CAN use allied transport embarked at the start of the game.
• Preferred Enemy bonus DOES confer bonus to the unit that they are in.
• Space Marines with mixed chapter tactics in them-
For example Whites scars chapter tactics give hit and run.  If a white scar models are in a unit with blood angel models would the whole unit still get hit and run?  YES that is correct, per ITC rules.

We will be putting this up on our rules packet under our 40K event.

All of the above are subject to change per ITC and GW releases. Releases after 9-15-16 (30 days prior) will NOT be in effect for Dragon-Fall.

Thanks!

Just to point out. GW FAQ prevents battle brothers from starting out the game embarked on allied transports.
