Have took my first step into AOS and went and bought the lizard men getting started box and glued it all together today.

I probably won't get a chance to play the game if I am honest no one wants to play the game but I bought them to paint. I got tired of 40k models and the game, not saying I won't go back to it but the lizards seem a good little pallet cleanser as it where.

I am thinking of buy one each of the starter boxes and paint them up as I go as a small project for myself plus if I can talk someone into playing AOS all the better although I find the rules a bit to simple think with the addition of the points system and such it may be a nice pallet cleanser of a game to break up the sci-fi games with.

Welcome my friend, glad you have come aboard. I was like you, just collecting and not getting any gaming in. Hoping to get my first game tomorrow and my FLGS is going to host the Ladder system (sorry forget what it's called dang CRS) and hoping more people will attend now.

A word of advice. I bought too much and now can't put it all together and paint it all. So start small and if you can make a rule, you don't buy more till everything is painted and assembled.

I know see why it's called plastic crack. So dang addicting to collect. Too bad for me the addiction doesn't go to modelling and painting.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Getting player to start playing AoS is an uphill struggle, even if they a;ready have a fantasy armies. I was surrounded by AoS haters half a year ago but I turned it completely around!

If you want your friends and opponents to like AoS, then the first step is to show them the freedom the game provides, and here is how you do it:

-Ask everyone to bring their favoriete infantry models for a quick game of AoS, you can call it a demo.
-Have everyone download the App and find their models and pick models untill they have about..15-20 wounds, preferable 25% heroes and infantry for the rest (forget about points, unit sizes and that stuff for now)
-Load up a table with the coolest scenerie you have laying around, seriously, Bring every awesome scenerie piece and create the most bonkers table you have every seen.
-Create two teams amonst the players and give the teams objective (capture the mage tower in the middle, kill the enemie general, collect the treasure, storm the castle)
-Start the game
-Make sure nobody chickens out during the game, look for the epic, have heroes fight each other in epic duels and scale that wall with complete disregard of miniatures lives.

It won't take long for them to understand the basics of the rules, and before you know it, each of you is having fun.
The freedom of AoS is the key, and when people realise they can actually use that ancient painted model that has not seen tabletime since the mid 90's, that's when you'll see the transistion.

Good luck!

It doesn't matter what gaming system it is. If nobody is playing in your area, take it on yourself to learn the rules and then get with your local store to hold a night where people can come out and play. Hold paint nights to teach people who play magic how to paint minis. Have a few small point armies around so you can teach people how to play. As long as there's somewhere that you can meet new people, you can try to make things work. A good idea right now is to go on ebay and buy a bunch of fantasy minis for dirt cheap, and hold a painting night and show people how they can do a basic paint job really fast and make it tabletop ready. A lot of what scares people away from our hobby is misconceptions.

A great way to start would be building a pair of forces under the GW 'School League' rules, they're designed for 30-45 minute games you can fit into a lunch break (or get 3-4 done in an evening of gaming). The hard limit is 30 models per army, but in most cases you could get away with just squaring off a couple of Start Collecting sets and achieve the same thing. Here's the rules pack in full

Great advice the problem I have is the people I game with are only interested in sci-fi which is weird considering we all started out with the old warhammer along time ago.

Thinking will build up two small forces order and destruction maybe death and see if I can't entice a friend.

Don't worry no intention of buying more stuff before I get the first painted as it drives me insane not having stuff done if it's not done it get dumped.

Started painting up some lizard men 3 normal warriors and the command group should with luck finish them off tomorrow going for a green under belly blue scales and red shields see how it turns out.

Not sure on limit size of small force thinking around the 650pts mark but nothings set in stone I just like relaxing and painting been months since I did. Will need to get the general hand book thing at some point but no real rush.

I do have 20 painted night goblins sitting and 20 nurgle plague bearers along with a herald think I even have blood letters about somewhere but I think the destruction way is best because let's face it who doesn't like orks and goblins .
