Hey all, so as my current legion(Iron Hands) slowly comes to completion I'm thinking forward on my next one, my choices thus far are Blood Angels(first 40k army, make a 30k nostalgia for myself) as loyalists, Thousand Sons, and lastly, a Dark Angels army, here's why the Dark Angels though.

As per fluff they are both loyalists and Traitor(at least in my opinion the one that split off the most. Having them would allow me to play it both ways depending on mood, setting, and as an interesting side step people wouldn't co spider, though it is fluffy.

Basically what are your thoughts here? Go Blood Angels due to nostalgia for myself, Thousand Sons, or Dark Angels for the aforementioned reason of being able to flip sides if needed?

Honestly you could flip sides with literally any legion (even Word Bearers, you just can't use their special units). Thousand Sons don't have rules yet but the book comes out later this year. From this it sounds like Blood Angels since you have a reason for wanting to play them, and the reason doesn't apply to every other legion.

Yeah, I always find myself staring at the FW:BA Task Force wanting to create them as a Legion since I started a 40k version of them. Though I am interested in seeing a Sanguinius model... That right there would sell me on BA.

Dark Angels can't really flip sides. I mean they can. but no more so for having the fallen.

Luther never sided with Horus, he just used the Heresy as a chance to secede from the Imperium. Most of the fallen never left the Caliban system during the war itself. they certainly didn't coordinate with Horus.

Other elements of the Legion could have joined Horus, sure, but that can be said of all of the loyalists. The Fallen on the other hand were just looking out for Caliban.

I'd pump the breaks on the Thousand Sons until we see what forgeworld do with them. I have a feeling they might end up functioning differently from the other Legions.

So I say, depends on how soon you want to start them. If it's like right now, then BA because they have at least their basic rules and you have tons of kitbash options with the 40k range. Or if you can hold off, see what the Sons look like when they get rules at the end of the year.

I've got some time yet, still have to work on a bunch of things, including a Glaive for my IH Legion, Blood Angels honestly seem like the front runner just because of my personal history with them(first army I did in 40k, and a connection with the person who got me into the Warhammer universe, my grandfather lol).

I'd go Thousand Sons, since they'll be receiving a lot of cool goodies this year. Already their upgrade pack and Contemptor look incredible and I always loved the idea of a Legion of warrior-mystics, run by a one eyed giant.
