Been playing a lot of Pathfinder recently and I can remember the lore from the old Ogre Kingdoms book about the downfall of the giants.

What if they established that in Age of Sigmar you still have giants who are noble warriors, live in cities and form part of the Order faction? A bit like the Storm/Cloud Giants you have in Pathfinder/D&D? I mean compared to some stuff in AoS a bunch of giant living in a floating city or castle is pretty tame. Plus they were technically part of the warhammer lore, so it wouldn't be left field to include them.

That would be pretty cool, I imagine something like a more noble version of Beastclaw Raiders, like giant colossus type guys in armor.

Yeah, theres no reason to automatically put all of the monsters on Destruction and Chaos.

Even just counting the new battletomes we got Extremis and stormcasts drakes, Fyreslayers Magmadracoths, and Sylvaneths treekin monsters for order. Not to mention the older model Gryphons and the old Dark/Light Aelf beasties.

They were the sky titans. They were much much much larger than giants. They could stomp a bonegrinder giant. A faction of them wouldn't really be feasible as their size would make them the size of a small mountain.

I like the idea but in a practical sense it wont work very well.

Something like the kolossae from kingdom of amalur would be awesome !

They are stone-like giant (2-3 time the size of man) with a very mythologic greece appereance and culture, who live in a floating city and talk of war and philosophy. And unlike what the screenshot show, they have facial expressions.

we have "giant" 2-3 times the size of a man. its called ogres.

Also in that batch minitors, trolls, kroxigor, etc. What I think the OP was referring to was truly giant say a giant kit the size of nagash

I think animated giant statues filled with spirits of warriors past could make a cool Death faction. Something a bit different.

As for D&D style Frost Giants. Sure! Sounds great! The current giants are akin to Hill Giants it seems. Would you imagine these Frostgiants to be the size of 40k Knight or the Glotkin? Could make a great centrepiece.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

There is a 5 giant formation called the sons of behemat. You declare one of them as a king and they gain the hero keyword.

Considering you are controlling them, I'd say they are already "smarter". Giants aren't so much dumb as they are single-minded...they like to drink and smash things. They know enough to wield weapons and have enough presence of mind for modesty (though that is probably GW not wanting to show giant wang.) and they have a tribal civilization. I feel like giants are around the same smarts as your average orc with about the same attitude, and the "king" being on par with a Warboss, no one would say they are intelligent by human standards but that is like calling barbarians stupid when you are a peasant. They certainly know how to be brutal and have no little amount of cunning when it comes to war.

As for in lore giants that are akin to an advanced human civilization (in AoS)...I could see them acting all uppity and trying to interfere, making everyone their enemy. Would be an interesting range to consider.

I was imagining more Greco-Roman bronze statues come to life, but sure I guess there are some thematic similarities.

I am going to repost this people may have thought I was joking.

In whfb there was a race of smart giants who had herds of animals and castles who lived on the peak of mountains. After the great maw hit the ogres they fled to the mountains.

When the ogres where walking around starving they found the giant's herds of animals and ate them. The giants tried to fight them off but since they lived alone the ogres stormed the castles and the giants used the cannons the ogres use now to fight them off. Also failed

When the ogres fell them and then ate them alive for weeks.

So literally ogres ate them all.

But that's my point, that's only in Warhammer Fantasy. Unless GW wrote an identical event in Age of Sigmar they're under no obligation to keep the races lore the same. Plus they are a pretty common archtype in High Fantasy, the new plastic mold technology allows them to make larger models pretty easily, the big kits seem to sell pretty well and they also tend to make small releases of 2-4 kits for a faction so its not impossible. They could very well make a factions of Sky Titans for AoS.

I mean, total speculation here, but given how far removed Sylvaneth are from traditional Wood Elves, as in spirits fused to tree bodies, it wouldn't be that much of a surprise if the "Light Elves" were altered in this manner to become these giant super natural beings. If we were going to see large amounts of High Elf units incorporated into that faction then wouldn't we have seen a limited roster like we did with the Sylvaneth? That suggests that they must be radically different from traditional high elves. Perhaps this is a road they'll go down?
