I've seen little actual sources/images of conical kroot buildings. Whilst I appreciate the level of artistic liberty this gives me, I feel like if were to make some kroot inspired scenery, I'd need some direction. I'm aware their lore/background seems heavily inspired by Native American influences, so is it possible that mostly tents and non-permanent lodgings would be the way to go?

Temporary or late bronze age equivalent type architecture seems like the right approach. Akin to the traditional architecture of N.American natives.

I would probably have created a model of a longhouse, like the two seen at the bottom of the image. I would also suggest that you incorporate high-tech Tau greebles, to show that while the Kroot prefer their traditional huts, they're also using Tau gadgetry, for heating, communication, cooking, etc. It would make for an interesting contrast, while also make your buildings seem more realistic.

Given that their spacecraft are Spheres, is a spherical tee-pee an option?

There are no other examples except the Warsphere as far as I know of. They always seem to be the 40k equivalent of the predator movie race for me.
