Pretty sure, sadly, I know the answer to this but I'd like to find out anyway. If I take a genestealer cult as allies to my tyranid force they are only allies of convenience. Therefore does shadow in the warp from hive tyrants for example lower the leadership of the patriach for example because it says all special rules that effect enemy units affect allies of convenience. Would make him bad at passing perils tests for one thing.

I don't own the genestealer cult or tyranid dex, but the answer is yes. SitW will effect the patriarch unless either dex (or the new Faq maybe?) has a rule that explicitly exempts it.

Considering Nids usually just eat Genestealer cults when they arrive (at least that's how it used to be) I'm kind of surprised theyre allies of convenience honestly.

Why would they eat them right away? I mean they are mind controlled slaves. Might just as well use them as cannon fodder before eating them.

The cultists act like tyranid organisms when the hive fleet arrives, and fight alongside the bugs. Just like purestrain genestealers. I'm kind of surprised they're not battle brothers.

Sure they get eaten afterwards, but all the regular tyranid ground forces get eaten too. Easier to suck them back onto the hive ships through a straw, than to transport them up in one piece.
