My gaming group are running a charity project selling a 30k army and I hope to pick your collective brains on an appropriate army composition and load out.
What we have to work with is the contents of a Calth box, twenty more marines, a vehicle (possibly two) and a Primarch.
What legion do you think would be most preferable and which vehicles? What other flavour stuff would you add? We thought a Sicaran, (but that is probably due to my own bias (its so pretty)) and a Praetor.

Sicarans are a very popular choice in people's armies, so that is probably a safe pick.

For loyalist armies with Primarch models, I like the Ultra Marines. Excellent rules, lots of foot soldiers is fluffy, and they look great.

For Traitor Armies with a Primarch, I love the Reds of the word bearers. Again, foot soldiers is fluffy. I think they need 2 HQ choices, so make sure you model a chaplain and a praetor.

Otherwise, I would say Imperial Fists. I believe that deep down, everyone is an Imperial Fists player but is afraid of painting yellow.

Interesting that you pick both the legions from the Calth box set.
Any advice on the best load outs for squads? Seems like a lot of people like to run them as 20 men units, but others recommend 10 or 15.
As for Imperial fists, I think this was GWs worst ever mistake as they should be Chaos, as yellow paint is clearly the devil!

I recon kronk is probably on the money with the spartan since it can carry the primarch and terminator unit as well as doing the anti-tank thing with its sponsons.
The new deredeo with lascannon option is a bit of a beast but the overwhelming popularity of the sicarian battle tank is difficult to argue against.
Most people increase numbers and add in an apothecary for tac squads; some legions have a 'preferred' squad size in the fluff which will require knowledge from other dakka peoples - I have limited data on the affairs and customs of the legions.
