Hey guys and girls (<- Not yet found one in this part of the internet)

I've been putting together a Militarum Tempestus force and i'm struggling to decide on my Valkyrie loadout. I'm using the Air assault formation and either two Ground assault formations or using the Ground assaults as a CAD at 3000pt games.

The general consensus is having the Rocket Pods, Multi Laser and maybe Heavy bolters. Having looking at my MT force I am lacking AA guns and the Valk is the only platform that could be specialized at it.

I am considering taking the Hellstrike missiles instead of the MRP. The Hellstikes have several advantages compared to the MRP. The fact it only fires two shots isn't a big deal as it isn't going to have chance to let off many more than that anyway. The extra range means it can target flyers or vehicles from turn 1 when other weapons will more than likely be out of range. Along with that, if you're shooting at a flyer, the Hellstrike is more likely to penetrate heavier front armour than the other weapons. Because of that, the ordinance classification forcing other weapons to snap shoot isn't as big of a limitation. I would still keep the Multilaser and Heavy Bolters as they give the Valk the ability to support the troops it drops with anti-infantry firepower.

So. Do you agree the Hellstrike would be a better choice as an air to air missile?

Or should I keep the MRP and use the Bolters and Multilaser to target lighter flyer side and rear armour? (I will have 4 Valks to help with positioning)

Statistically, you will almost certainly die when assaulting a well-maintained fortress with a competent commander. You must strive to make your death useful.

Your foe is well equipped, well-trained, battle-hardened. He believes his gods are on his side. Let him believe what he will. We have the tanks on ours.

With four Valks, I'd take two with Hellstrike + Lascannon and two with MRP+Multilaser, and heavy bolters on all four. The reasoning is this: the multilaser+heavy bolter combo will chew up most flyers (AV10/11 or T6, usually) but you'll have the heavier firepower around in case something with AV12 shows up. The multilasers can maybe do something to AV12 flyers, too, and the lascannons give you some backup plans once all your Hellstrikes are expended.

In a vacuum the Hellstrike is definitely the better AA missile, but it can't one-shot targets unless you get super-lucky. Also, most flyers have about the same front and side armor anyway. The heavy bolters are a must since they threaten most flyers.
