As the title says does the Leviathan dreadnaught have to take a dreadnaught pod from forge world or can it take a normal pod

They are Dreadnought of any type. Space Marine Drop Pods can hold one Dreadnought of any type. Therefore, they can use a Space Marine Drop Pod.

To address the underlined: they do, indeed, have that rule in the Legion red book preventing them from using the regular drop pod. So again, it is not unreasonable to assume that their 40K incarnation is not intended to be used in a regular drop pod. One can email Forgeworld to ask, or wait for the final version of the published rules in the coming IA book to see. If the ability to ride in a regular pod is a deciding factor in purchasing the model, I would argue it is best to play it safe due to the costs involved.

I only ever really pay attention to the 40K rules, so that is why I forgot about that rule. At any rate, the 40K version doesn't have that rule (maybe they build their drop pods more sturdy?), so it should be able to ride in a regular pod. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they changed that rule.

Yes. As a dedicated Transport. But there is, currently, nothing whatsoever, preventing a player from taking a Drop Pod in a Fast Attack slot and embarking the Leviathan Dreadnought in that pod.

Pretty certain Leviathans now can only take Dread DPs. Couldn't probably fit its big ass in a regular one.

Now the REAL question
What About Stormravens? Can they fit in those?

Anyway, the Dreadnought Drop Pod is TOTALLY worth it for the Shrouded on the turn it arrives, the dreadnought can camp in it for a turn, and its an Assault Vehicle

Plus its a Leviathan Dreadnought, which is SUPER SCARY in Close Combat

Aren't the Dreadnoughts carried by Stormravens on a winch on the back or something? And not actually in the plane.

The Leviathan has 4++, so shrouded is almost always going to be irrelevant.

unless you were already getting a cover save where is could be 3+ or 2+ cover

Hence "almost always."

Being raised up in the DDP, in a space large enough to DS it, is going to make that tough.

I dont have the new red book update for AoD legions. Anything in there?
