What might your Skitarii partner packing?
Also, I think it is better for you to take more Ignore cover weaponery, like Thurnder fire cannons and flamers. And take psykers to grant ignore ability to Heavy weapons like Lascannon or Heavy bolters.

Welcome to Dakka, and the Ultramarines.
What does your collection look like? What kind of army does your partner favor? To be honest, I think I’ve only seen Skitarii on the table once. But if he’s going to stand back and gunline, you should be ready to head out and grab objectives.
Things like TFCs and WWs are classically good at thinning out hordes. Units like TML/HB speeders are very versatile vs. light vehicles and troops. Drop pod sternguard with HFs, and maybe some combis are a solid answer to many of life’s problems.

Thanks for the replies guys appreciate it. I have not much o an idea on what the skitarii will have but I know a vast amount of templates.
But I went with this list in the end not 100% sure but critique as much as you need I know it won't be perfect haha.
2 X battle Demi companies (battle company)
Both companies are the same consisting of:
2x 5 man Tac squads with sergeant and a multi melta "free drop pods"
1x 5 man Tac squad with sergeant and a Flamer "free razorback LC upgrade"
1x 5 man Assault squad with sergeant 2 Flamers "free drop pod"
Devastators squad with sergeant signum, heavy bolster, missile launcher and 2 Laz cannons.
Chaplin with crozius arcanum and auspex
Captain as HQ.
Above will be my entire Battle company then I also have
Venerable Dread with TL auto cannon, heavy Flamer, drop pod with deathwind launcher
Thunderfire cannon.
That's the lot so I hope I have enough hard hitting S9 ap2 stuff to mulch his battle wagons and hurt is squigg yet enough boots on the ground to capture objectives and torch big groups of boys.

You can’t just tack a TFC onto a list without going unbound. The dread is fine (although I’d go with a MM or AsC for a drop dread), as you have the optional slots in the demi-co for them. Also, right now you don’t get the transports for free. That is a benefit of a 2xdemi gladius. Right now you are lacking the aux choice. If you drop the TFC, and shave some points (dropping the dread would do) you can get a suppression force of a LS and a pair of WWs. Good low cost pick that will do bad things to greenskins.
I’d go with regular meltas rather then multis for the drop squads.
Your Dev squad is a hot mess. Instead of taking two squads like that, shuffle them up. Make one 4xLC, and the other 2xHB, 2xML. And might as well take free razors for them if you have the models.

I was under the impression that a chapail in one company and a captain in the other is classed as your Aux?? The devastators yea true I will shuffle them around. I already have an assault canon on on the dread. Will change those multi' to regular meltas Automatically Appended Next Post: Chaplin* Automatically Appended Next Post: Didn't mean to say auto cannon on the last post my bad. And the Chaplin/captain are strike command are they not? Which is an aux choice

The captain/chaplain are part of the demi-cos. Where they fill the mandatory slot. If you wanted to take more of them as part of a gladius, you could use one of your 0-3 picks from the “Command” options to take more. But you still need your 1+ Aux selection.
For a gladius, we only have one core choice (the demi co) and need to take 1-2 of them.
The 0-3 command slots can be a pick from the strike force command, a reclusium command squad, or a librarian conclave.
The 1+ auxiliary choice can be everything else on the following page. 1st or 10th compmany TF, AA defense force, suppression force, LR spearhead, etc.

Trying to get some free transport is good, but a few advises when you formulating your units:
1st, do not mix anti Tank weapons (i.e. Lascannon) with anti infantry weapons (Heavy bolters), your Squads efficiency will be reduced since all weapons in the same Squad have to shoot at the same target. Once you know your opponent is taking Battle wagons and possibly a few walkwers, it may be better to take Dev Squad with 3 to 4 Lascannons, and put Heavy bolters into frontline (Razorback) Tactical Squads.
Second, Generally speaking, MM are bad on infantry units due to its short range (So you usually need to move to get into firing position), Heavy weapon type (so whenever you move you are only hitting on 6s), and single shot nature (so you do not have the volume of fire to mitigate 6s to hit problem). So unless you can give them Relentless (i.e. Skyhammer formation or accompany by Cataphercii Terminator Captain) it is better to avoid them. In your incoming game, flamers or probably plasma guns are way better options in your Droppod Tactical Squads due to assault and Rapid Fire weapon type. While the former can burns ork boyz even if they are inside their trukks or Battle Wagons, the latter kills mega nobz when they fall off their destroyed transports.
3rd, you cannot take a single TFC in Gladius Strike, cheapiest way to bring it in your case is take an ally Detachment with a Libby and Scout tax. But you need to spare 220pts for that.
Finally, if you decided to droppod in your Ven Dread, keep the default Multi Melta may be better, autocannon range advantage is wasted in this case. While MM dedicated anti vehicle ability is preferred. MM and PF with Heavy flamer is very brutal against open top vehicle transports.

Honestly just bring a well rounded list with the tools to take on most threat types and it should be a fun game. Orks aren't exactly winning the 40k arms race and they make all your bolter weapons actually useful. Please don't list tailor as its both unnecessary and takes away the fun from the Ork player. Just think about it like this, would you spam flamers against Tau, Eldar, Necrons, CSMs, or Space Wolves? If not then don't suddenly load up on flamers against the Ork or Nid player.
