I've already purchased the Archangels Orbital Intervention Force and the Death Company Strike Force, but need to build the core formation (Archangels Demi Company).

Since my terminators are all taken care of, I was wondering what everyone thinks about Sternguard vs Vanguard. I have to take 5 units in any combination, so I was thinking 3 sternguard in drop pods and 2 vanguards w/ jump packs... BUT, I'll already have 15 death company with jump packs and 15 deep striking terminators. Would vanguard be melee overkill? Would running 5 sternguard squads balance it out more?

Vanguard with storm shields can be used as charge blockers and mobile cover for your assault elements. Plus they can also charge if you need to push the HtH over the top in your favor.

If you're worried about melee overkill, maybe put the Sternguard in a Rhino or Razorback? Do they get the special ammo SM Sternguard do?

BA sternguard are identical.

Or you could just add another DC chaplain and make the DC Strike Force your 'core' choice using the Lost detachment.

If you want Sterngaurd you could add an Archangels Strike Force (from SoB Exterminatus), with Karlaen to help your deep strikers.
