Hey everybody, just some question about thoughts on custom trays.

I am looking to order either a P.A.C.K 720 or a P.A.C.K. Air from battlefoam and was wondering about getting customed designed trays, mainly the slot sizes and the depths. I have a Dark Angels army, right now its a full company and some ravenwing. I was going to order a custom tray with Samie and three landspeeders as well as my black knights and HQ's on bikes. My main question is depth and slot size below I've listed out what I think but would love some opinions. One note is all my marine are cork board based which give them some extra height.

I am also looking for input on what size cutout you guys used for scouts both snipers and bolters.

Marines - 1.25"x1.5" - 1.5" deep
Assault Marines - 1.5"x2" - 2" deep
Landspeeders - Custom cut template - 2"deep
Samie - Custom cut template - 2.5" deep
ravenwing bikes - GW bike slots - 2" deep

Dark Angels - No point count
Tyranids - Not a clue

Are your Marines standing up or laying down?

Most of my Marines and Scouts are laying down in their foam and fit in 1" x 1.5" cutouts. For the most part the foam is 1" deep but for Assault Marines it's 1.5". This works well for most.

Standing up, Marines need 1.5" deep foam and can fit in a 1" x 1" cutout. Sniper Rifles and heavy weapons need a 1" x 1.5" cutout.

Some of the Marines require larger spaces, of course, but the sizes above work for the vast majority of my models. I also use pluck foam so the extra thickness of the walls around each cutout helps to accommodate larger models and any parts that stick out.

If your models are more dynamically posed then I would go with 1.5" deep foam. 1" wide seems fine for most models, especially if you have a deeper tray to accommodate awkward weapons. I would probably make the cutouts a bit taller than 1.5" if your models are on tall bases, as mine are on standard bases and fit pretty snugly into 1.5" slots. 1.75" should be fine.

Bikes I can't really comment on as I don't own any, but I fit my Landspeeders into 1.5" foam. It does require shortening the little tail that sticks out of the bottom of the model. If you don't want to touch that then 2" will do you fine.

They will be laying down. I appreciate the help greatly I just want to make sure I order the right stuff the first time. All my marines are on 32mm bases is that going to effect the depth and push it to the 1.5 inch foam?

When trying to figure out how much foam will fit in a case, remember that Battlefoam has a .25" base in addition to the measurement of the foam itself, so a 1.5" foam tray will actually be 1.75". I've had to redo a lot of orders because of this. I can never seem remember this.

That .25" causes for the measurements to be kinda whacky. I just really want to make sure the height will protect my models.

If your miniatures are on 32mm bases then you'll definitely want 1.5" trays. The good news is that extra depth give you plenty of room to fit dynamic poses and most weapons. Longer rifles and heavy weapons probably still need a slightly wider than normal cutout, though, even in a 1.5" tray.

Obviously, the cutouts will also need to be wider than 1 inch.

FYI, all of the measurements I gave you for my stuff are for 25mm-based models.
