I wanna talk tactics.
This extends to any sort of jump pack infantry. If you regularly run a marine list that uses 30+ jump packers at the 2000-ish point level, get at me!

I run Raven Guard all the time with Jump Packs galore.
Personally enjoying the Vanguard Vet / ASM formation that leaves the field and comes back, brain fart on the name atm. It's nicer to play against than the VV/Scout formation 1st turn assault of doom.

I know this one guy who plays a Blood Angels list with mostly Assault Marines, Death Company, and Sanguard. Our games are usually pretty close, but then again I bring fun ork lists to those games so it's nothing competitive.

I'm guessing these are 40k games? Automatically Appended Next Post: dracpanzer wrote:I run Raven Guard all the time with Jump Packs galore.

Oh, my bad about that one. I just browse the "recent thread" list and don't pay as much attention to the category as I should.

I am building that list, though I'm currently a little over 3000 points in planned build, so need to pare back and figure out what I need to do for 2.0 - 2.5K.
For Blood Angels, I think my major challenge right now, is how to ensure my turn 1 deep striking assault marines are supported. My answer right now is to pod 1-2 dreadnaughts and then try to follow up on turn 2 with various options including (storm eagles, javelins, another DDP).
I also want to experiment with a twin inferno moritat. Great opportunity to kill tanks or terminator equivalents.

I played a Night Lord Terror Assault last weekend at 3k with 18 Assault Marines, 5 man command squad with jump packs, Kurze, 10 Night Raptors and 3 Terror squads in Drop pods along with a couple dreads for AA work.
Deathwatch was nasty especially their air craft. Kurze was the only reason I won.
My new Alpha Legion army isn't a jump pack army but will be led by a praetor with jump pack in a squad of 15 assault marines.
The issue is the same as before except our assault marines can run. The price drop made them usable along with being able to field apothecaries with jump packs(not that I can pass fnp rolls).

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM! |

Assault Armies are a bit tricky in 30K. Some Rites of War and or special characters modify Reserve Rolls. There is a lot of Interceptor available. Specifically, on the Contemptor class dreadnoughts, and those come in the Battle of Calith box. Just about anyone starting out in 30K will have one. The Legion Tactical Support Squad can field 10 models, all armed with special ranged weapons. Terminators are a thing in 30K. Thanks to the Battle of Calith box set and the different patterns and load outs they can take (not to mention the Legion Specific Terminators).
Legion Assault Squads cost more then Legion Tactical Squads, and yet both have the same stat lines and same weapons. The only advantage the Assault Squad has is Deepstrike and Jump Packs. So when the Assault Squad gets into close combat, it will probably be facing a squad with a similar wargear loadout. Deep striking close to a Tactical Squad could be a very bad idea as they unload Bolter Drill into you. Sure, they can't Overwatch or assault you the next turn, but who cares? They just double tapped you and chances are, you lost models.
There is a lot of shooting in 30K that can and will remove whole squads. Deepstriking on a table when there is a Rapier Battery with Mortars, or a Whirlwind Scorpious Launcher just seems like a bad idea. Vehicles could cause you a lot of problems, especially ones with Armored Ceramite that ignore the Melta rule. Loading up 20 Assault models with Meltabombs is an extra 200 points... or the price of another Assault squad. I have yet to see a close combat squad that can remove whole units in one close combat phase that doesn't cost 400+ points, whereas I can load up a Support Squad, Devastator Squad, Dreadnought Talon or other shooting unit for less points that can do the same thing from turn 1 on. This is more of a "design flaw" of 7th edition then anything else, but 30K is a shooty game.
Personally, I've never faced a 100% Assault Army in 30K, and I don't see how it can do very well. 30K really seems to reward a combined arms approach. Min/maxing and spamming of units just doesn't work as well as it does in 40K.

I run a javelin, a regular speeder and a bunch of dreads sans pods.
My issue is I'm trying to make a blood angel only army that won't feel like it's worse than my combo blood angels / knights or my blood angels / militia.
The knights are crazy good and fast and the troop knight can even cap a point. The militia are crazy good at capping points and unlock a leman russ for me which is a tank I'll never say no to in 30k.
Then I try to make an all blood angel list that is assault oriented and I just get left feeling underwhelmed in comparison. My dreads don't hit as hard as knights, are nowhere near as fast and can't cap points, and nothing I can drop with the blood angels is even close to as good as my militia are at scoring in the back or midfield.
Maybe it's just not possible to make a non-ally list that is better, since i'm in effect cherry picking what is best from multiple armies when I use an ally...
I guess I'd just like to see someone else run an all marine list that has 40ish assault marines that I could compare to and be like "YES! that's a killer build."

Here is what I am working on at the moment. I'm trying to shave points down to get to 3000. Maybe considering an option to ditch some of the specialists to go with a larger tactical blob for the Storm Eagle.

That is the plan. Deep strike near a high value target, overload with targets, and kill what I can.
