I just saw that this game exists on Will Wheaton's Youtube show Table Top (I know, I'm rather late to the party) and I wanted to know how just the base game plays. I'd guess it's pretty great as the price is still high (for a boardgame), but I wanted to get some real life experiences.

To start, I love boardgames, all things comic books, Magic the Gathering (and all other card games), so this game is an automatic yes from me. My wife, however, is a big Marvel fan, but not the biggest fan of overly complex board games. She loves to play boardgames, but tops out at anything more complex than Betrayal at House on the Hill and King of Tokyo (her two favorite games at the moment).

My hope is that while Legendary is a deck building game, it's so simple (in terms of just drawing cards and having them auto play) that I can get her hooked in with the Marvel and co-op theme.

TL,DR: How does this game hold up for people who hate deck builders? Worth the ~$45 price tag?

Base game is fun but pretty easy to beat. I would recommend picking up the Dark Cites expansion also. Dark cities makes the game a heck of a lot harder, the masterminds are a lot more brutal. Also there is an app that will randomly generate games for you and you can adjust the difficulty.
