I've been doing a fair amount of play-testing with variation of SW Dread Rain for an upcoming event, and while is has performed as expected (solid, but certainly not meta-shifting versus top-tier armies), I am looking to make some performance tweaks. One thought was pulling my Thunderwolf unit, and replacing it with an Eldar Aspect-Host of Warp Spiders.

Essentially small-arms fire has no targets against met aside from the Thunderwolves, so my opponents, even while suitably distracted by the Dreads and IK, direct any shooting they do have at the Thunderwolves, usually whittling them down enough by the time they get to the fight to make them less exciting, and less of a tool in my tool-box.

For their points I can fit three min units of Warp Spiders, fielded as an Aspect Host, and thus BS5(6 for Exarch). They could actually contribute at range, engaging before Thunderwolves, and thanks to shenanigans, Flickerjumps, etc... should be able to keep out of ranges of many units, while maybe also serving as 1. Objective grabbers, 2. A way to counter my relatively low unit-count when dealing with MSU opponents, Gladius players, etc...

They are pretty much unparalleled as objective grabbers. Eldar jetbikes are a little more reliable at getting onto objectives, but flicker jump goes miles to having the unit survive. Warp spiders are some of the best units in the entire game right now. You won't be disappointed if you field them.

So would you say the added objective grabbing (it'll be for ITC missions/format), are worth a small-ish drop to offense? I mean... i'm guessing yes?

Edit: Incidentally, how do Warp Spiders work if they're targeted by a blast of any kind, and then Flicker-Jump away? Does the opponent get to try to place the template again if they're still within LOS, or do they just scatter it from its original point?

I'm not sure I would even call it a drop in offense. Warp spiders have pretty solid shooting. I think they are worth it.

The opponent does get to place the template over the spiders new position if they are still within LOS and within range.
