Subject: Sisters of Silence? Bit absent from the story?

I quite liked the concept of the Emperor, to all intents an purposes already having Sisters of Battle in the heresy era. Plus, the whole null concept is pretty cool and is very prominent in the Black Library.
But, we're what, 50 books into the heresy and aside from a few cameos early in the series in Flight of Eisenstein and the Prospero books they've played an incredibly minor part in the heresy. There are sme Imperial Army regiments with more background and characters given over to them than the Sisters. I think there has been 1 short story by James Swallow in an anthology where we get an actual character. But, after that it seems like they really didn't know how to do anything with the idea. For comparison, you have the Custodes who get a ton of attention in many of the books. Valedor is a prominent character, appearing alongside Dorn and Malcador. Plus we had a whole book on the Assassins and even a whole book about Astropaths; plus others like Legion took a closer look at the Imperial Army.
Its one of the reasons I am quite apathetic about the idea of the army getting models from Forgeworld some time next year. This is an army with virtually no presence or development in the story when you consider the amount of material in print. In fact the seem to have made a bigger deal of them in the "Beast" series instead of in the Heresy where they should be much more relevant. But basically aside from "they're basically Sisters of Battle"appeal they've done virtually nothing with them. I dunno, maybe the Forgeworld book will make a massive deal over and expand on their involvement in that battle; which literally amounted to Thousand Son -"oh shes a good swordswoman" Splat. Pretty threadbare. Hell I am pretty sure we got a better look at the Spireguard than them and they were just there for Russ to curb stomp.
I mean I am sure they've said they will add special characters for Sisters, but, who the hell can you add. Theres literally that one character from Eisenstein and the short story and that's it. What actually happened to that character BTW, she seemed to just never get brought up again.

The sisters' Constantin Valdor analogue is Jenetia Krole.
Based on the collected visions, expect to see a lot more of them jn the war in the webway - one of them infamously pulls a sanguinius, holding the gate until it can be sealed.
The are a natural pairing for rogue psyker cults, so it'd be interesting to see more of them. I hope the do make them a full army list and not just an allied bolt-on.

You're right we ll probably see a bit more of them with the release of the models.
But I think you're understating how many years the series has been going and their complete absence from the story.
I mean I will definetly be getting a force of them, but that's purely because of the models and then being close to SOB in theme. Has nothing to do with the lore, since it's basically non existent. Automatically Appended Next Post: No I just wiki the character. Amendera Kendel. The actual head of the Silent Sisters hasn't shown up in any of the novels as far as Iam aware.

You are right. They aren't present in much. But, they are a very small, elite force, so I don't think it will feel over the top to begin adding them into the narrative. Even after decades of books and such, we still only have information on a tiny number of events in imperial history. In fact, I think it would be fun with they presented it as the secret history of an obscure order. Just as long as it isn't as bad as what they did with imperial knights. That was cringeworthy.

Active armies, still collecting and painting First and greatest love - Orks, Orks, and more Orks largest pile of shame, so many tanks unassembled most complete and painted beautiful models, couldn't resist the swarm will consume all
Armies in disrepair: nothing new since 5th edition oh how I want to revive, but mostly old fantasy demons and some glorious Soul Grinders in need of love |

Before, no one cared or even knew who the Sisters of Silence were. We had Sisters of Battle for the Nuns with Guns in Power Armor and all was well. I know my first thoughts about learning of the Sisters of Silence (SoS) was that they were the Horus Heresy version and progenitors of the Sisters of Battle (SoB). Then I remembered that the SoB's were not stood up until around 5,000 years after the Horus Heresy.
With the complete lack of support and shelving of the SoB's for the past several years, players/hobbyists have become starved for just about any female model in 40K. Sisters of Silence fill that void... for now.
This is the first time I've heard/read that Forge World will be doing an entire army of the Sisters of Silence. Will it be a full army, or just a couple units with the expectation that you'll use them as allies in a Horus Heresy army?
