So I'm fairly new to 40k and playing the Space Wolves and I am wondering what would be good alongside my current unit list for kill team and for larger point games.
For Kill team I am using 3x Thunder wolf cavalry with bolt pistols and chain swords
4x Grey hunters with bolt rifles
1X Grey hunter pack leader with chain sword and bolt pistol
200 points total
I have played several games with this setup and have been pleased with the results. I currently have a box of 5 Wulfen un-built, a box of 3 thunder wolf cavalry un-built, and 5 more infantry from the Space Wolves infantry box that are un-built (originally 10 in the box but I already used up 5 to make the Grey Hunters), and 6 freebee infantry units that were given to me that are built but unpainted with bolt rifles.
So I want to upgrade these un-built units to be competitive in 1k and bigger point games. Any ideas what might be viable? Thank you before hand for the assistance.

Hey and welcome to the hobby!
Your kill team looks good. It's hard to really give out too many upgrades in kill team games like storm shields for your TWC but it would make them incredibly hard to kill with a 3+/3++ save.
I would say you've got the makings of a small 1k list with what you have so far. You can run the Wolves Unleashed formation, Company of the Great Wolf, or a CAD. I would highly recommend getting a rune priest as your HQ especially at 1k games. Try roughing out a list at 1k and we can try to critique it for you.

Can you get a special weapon in the grey hunters for the killteam game? The reason I ask, is that you have specialist roles to dish out, and giving a plasma gun, or something like that extended range... ignore cover, etc. is really awesome.
Furthermore, if you can go down to 2 thunderwolves (I don't know how many points they are), maybe you can get a Rhino for the Grey Hunters? Vehicles are insanely good in killteam, especially if you put a heavy weapon in them, give him relentless as a specialist, and watch people squirm.
Hope that helps!

When I created the kill team, the thunderwolves were my foremost choice at 120 points for 3. Greyhunters sat at 70 points for five. I didn't have enough points left over for the shields and any of the really cool stuff or big guns so I made a grey hunter pack leader for round up to 200 points.
For the 1k list, id like to have to hot drop my wulfen into the enemies rear while my main force hits from the front. I'm at a toss up for using 3 drop pods for wulfen and two infantry to support them, or maybe add bjorn the fel handed with the wulfen. And the amp up the thunder wolves to smash them. Id also want a whirlwind for artillery. But this is just the mere etchings of a 1k point list and will be a thread for another day once I have it all written out.
But I have a question, what would be in you all's opinion the best equipment to equip on thunderwolves? On the three unbuilt ones I want some really good equipment since the ones that I have on my kill team are just bolt pistol and chain sword.
OH and what is you all's opinion on the stormwolf transport?

With Thunderwolves I have a couple of shields and one Hammer with the rest barebones.

I recommend building the wulfen with 3 TH/SS and 2 frost claws.
I have used that and the 3++ provided by the storm shield is amazing, and the two frost claws will most likely kill whatever is necessary before the Thunderhammers get to attack so missing out on extra frost claws isn't too bad.
I recommend building the rest of the Grey hunters with the two plasma guns provided in the kit, as Grey hunters can take two if their squad size is ten and I personally think that is a very strong option.
Additionally, I like Thunderwolf Calvarly with all SS and Wolf claw but outfit them to taste as they are really good with anything.
Happy wargaming!

Cool thanks for the help everyone.
I will most certainly put the storm shields on the un opened box of thunderwolves and I will kit my wulfen with the frost claws, thunder hammers and storm shields.
Next question, what is everyone's opinion on the stormwolf and the stormfang?

The stormwolf (always screamed in a german accent) is pretty good, I think its a lot better than a stormraven and can put out quite a bit of hurt.
The stormfang brings even more hurt, and it'll do some serious damage.
They aren't amazing but they are still quite good, especially in a fluffy or not-super-competetive list.

I am looking for something that can carry troops to the rear of the enemy forces and drop them off so they do all kinds of rape, (probably going to use my wulfen for that.). And I am also looking to have some sort of close air support or armor support to take out vehicles. Some of the people I play with either go full on hordes of troops with a few dreadnaughts or go Tanks..... tanks everywhere.. with very few infantry.

stormfang will serve you well.It is basically a flying eldar fire prism that can carry a handful of troops.
The stormwolf is IMO the better option, but if you want something to disrupt the enemy backlines then a drop pod is much cheaper and a bit better. I like the stormwolf for filling the role of a flying landraider with a bit more firepower.
Just my $0.02

Cool, I was definitely going to pick up some drop pods but was not to sure about how effective a stormwolf would be. I'll be getting one now, should make fore some interesting games. Thanks for everyone's help.
