Hey all,

I won a shiny new alt-art Soontir Fel at the FLGS yesterday and so I'm now trying to figure out the best way to use him in a list that also includes a Defender (still my favorite ship).

So far my list looks like this
=============
XLI Squadron
=============

100 points
------

“Omega Leader” (29)
TIE/fo Fighter (21), Comm Relay (3), Juke (2), Stealth Device (3)

Soontir Fel (35)
TIE Interceptor (27), Royal Guard TIE (0), Push the Limit (3), Autothrusters (2), Stealth Device (3)

Countess Ryad (36)
TIE Defender (34), Push the Limit (3), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

------

I don't really have a plan for how these three should interact, they're just basically the strongest individual builds. That said, I'm not sure if I shouldn't make some adjustments...

For example, I've seen some Soontir builds that use Targeting Computer instead of the stealth device (though rarely without a Palp shuttle)...

I'm also thinking about other Defender pilots.and a different 3rd ace (maybe Inquisitor? )... Maarek Stele with Predator (also 36 points) might not be quite as maneuverable as Ryad but his pilot ability _is_ fun and he brings some extra PS also.

Even Rexler Brath (given some of the FAQ changes) seems like he might be a valid choice (i hate having a focus left over that I can't spend).

What do y'all think?

I actually like this list and i may borrow it.

our local meta has people flying Fel with that same setup, though i have seen the TC build as well.

Omega Leader & Countess are solid builds.

They are all solid, I'm just worried about your initiative bid.

The main problem is that Fel is likely going to be a very bad choice in the current metagame. Slicer tools are a hard counter to PTL aces and, unlike Corran or even the Inquisistor you have no action economy (especially when you refuse to take Palpatine) and no hope of survival if you can't use PTL. He's still going to fly circles around lists without BMST, but against lists that have them you've got 35 points of dead weight.

Not the PS 5 of Ryad, the bid for initiative. The list is at 100 points, so the best you can do is a 50/50 chance of Fel getting to move second and even a 1-point opposing bid will have you moving first guaranteed. This is a really dangerous position to be in when you depend heavily on moving after everyone else.

Yeah i realised my mistake as soon as i pressed submit.

i agree with your issue with Fel nowadays. Do you reckon that maybe it's time for Fel's EPT become something else instead of PTL? maybe Outmaneuver?

Hell no. Fel with anything but PTL is trash. You either take Fel with PTL and accept that a hard counter exists in BMST, or you don't take Fel at all.

@Peregrine: What do you think of the targeting computer option for Soontir?

I'm not Peregrine, but a friend of mine swears by TC on Soontir. He feels it brings the level of dice modification needed to survive when you absolutely need to wreck face to save yourself.

Very, very bad. Stealth device is what keeps Fel alive. You have to remember that Fel is a defensive ship, the vast majority of the time if you have a choice between trading shots or going full defense (by arc dodging or token stacking) you're going to give up the shot and live to fight another day. If you "absolutely need to wreck face to save yourself" you've already made a mistake by getting yourself into that situation. So, stealth device helps your primary strategy considerably, targeting computer only provides a major boost when you've screwed up. It does let you add on firepower when you're safely out of arc and have a spare action, but in that case having bad dice just means you try again later.
