Hi all,

Just starting this awesome game and wanted some feedback on my DA list. Apologies for typos of any other errors! Please feel free to rip into this list and criticise.

I want to try use the models I have and think the dark talon/ nephilum jet fighter looks awesome and fun to use so HAVE to use it even if it's not the best thing to spend points on.

My general plan would be to split the tac squad in 2, 5 with bolters move up to objectives and enemy toops with the librarian and the other 5 close by supporting with plas guns. The ravenwing would swoop round one of the flanks trying to score objectives hopefully going unoticed whilst the nephilum jet fighter provides long range fire support trying to take out major threats and being an annoying wasp the opponenet focus's their attention on. I don't want a super competitive list, just something that looks cool and can be fairly decent.

I would sturggle against anything with heavy armour but thought I wouldn't encounter much of that at this point level?

HQ - Librarian- naked 65 points

TROOPS -10 tac marines
1 sargent
x2 plas guns, x1 melta bombs - 170 points

FAST ATTACK- x3 Ravenwing bikers
x1 plas, - 95 points

SUPPORT - Nephilum jet fighter
170 points

Cheers!

A Tactical squad can only take a single special weapon, so if you want two plasma guns, you'll need to take them as two 5-man units, with one plasma gun each. Should still work within your plan, and means that you fit into a Combined Arms Detachment (CAD) to gain Objective Secured on the troops and a re-roll on your Warlord Trait.

I agree about the Neph, it's a great model, and it actually got a (little) bit better in the 7th edition Codex. It can be quite dangerous strafing ground troops with a 4+ or less save.

For expanding the list, I'll suggest adding transports for the tac's and special weapons to the bikes. The librarian also goes well on a bike but that requires some conversion work.

Thanks for the reply man, really appreciate it.

Would it be worth swapping the plasma guns for plasma cannons? I guess that could slow them down a bit though. Thinking about experimenting with the dark talon also but not sure how well it would work with the shorter range.

Certianly agree with you on getting some tac squad transport, rhinos will be on the list next.

Cheers!

I tend to stick with plasma guns, as the range (24") and type (rapid fire) match the boltguns the rest of the unit carry. A canny opponent will spread out enough that the small blast from a cannon will only hit one or two models on average. YMMV.

I wouldn't worry overly about the range on the Dark Talon - flyers are the fastest units in the game.

Most importantly: All Tactical Squads always need transports always always.

Flyer is tight in 500 points. More bikes would be better, especially Black Knights. Flyer is better at 1000 points and above.

A 40 point biker with plasma gun is strictly worse than a 40 point Black Knight model. Give the biker grav or maybe melta.

If you're buying transports, buy Razors.
slight cost difference but kit can make both easily, and can be swapped. more versatile kit by far, for the sake of a few quid

top tip!
