Played y first game today 1000 points. My friend drove down to my house to hang out and play some games today. we played my first game of AoS. His Iron Jaws vs My Bonesplittaz. It was a lot of fun. I have a lot to learn. Just a few things confused me but nothing I can't wrap my head around in a few games. Iron Jaws are tough but not unbeatable. I tried a special mask, can't recall what it's called. An used it too soon. Managed to generate 8 mortal wounds with it and didn't want to press my luck after that. Really cool. My Spear guys .... Well, Spears aren't as effective as I'd imagined. Chompas are "better", with the 3+ to wound. Over all a very educational game at only 1000 points. We called the game at the end of..turn 4 I think. the sun was going to set and we were playing outside on the back deck. But I had a good time and am looking forward to the next game.
I'll try to keep this thread going as I get to play more games.

Thanks for reading.

Sounds like a fun game!

Spears are ok if you use them behind short range melee weapons. Like, if you had choppas in the front, spears could reach from behind I guess? At least that is the intention of spears for being weaker, you get more dude to hit.

Thus I would do this
1 strong unit of close combat melee, 1 inch range.
1 smaller unit of spearwielders, 2 inch range - allows you to attack with them from behind the 1 inch dudes.

Thanks for the reply!
There was so much about combat that I didn't think was how it works until I saw it happening on the table. This first game was very educational. I have 20 with spears and 10 with chompas. I think more chompa and shields would be a little better, or more versatile anyway. I'm also not too sure about the More Boys. I built 20 and tried 20 in their unit I almost think 10 would have been enough. but they held out after being charged for 4 turns before they all died. I kept the "fearless" for a long time and that was huge for them.
When I was building my models I first thought I could have a mixed weapon unit. both spears and chompas. in the same unit. (not on the same models.) I was told that Bonesplittaz always get a 6+ save no matter what but I can't remember reading that. I think we got a few things incorrect. At one point I wanted to use Fist of Gork on a unit to help dig one of my units out of combat( Targeting who they were fighting) but for some reason I thought each of his models would take a single mortal wound and not that you find out the total number of mortal wound and then bleed out as many models as that is in wounds. If we had played that correctly it would have gone much better for my side haha.

In your Bonesplitterz battletome, there should be a section there on the bonesplitterz allegiance abilities. The battle trait is that bonesplitterz always succeed armor saves on a 6 before modifiers ( meaning a natural roll of a 6 i think). Also, whenever they take a mortal wound, they can ignore that mortal wound on a roll of a 6.

Also, you always allocate a wound onto a model and keep adding wounds to that particular model until it's dead before moving onto another model within the unit.

Thank you.
I mistakenly thought that was directly attached to the Warclan. This will help! I didn't roll a lot of 6's but getting to roll will make a difference.
And thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I've mostly focused on the War scrolls related to my units.

I have it already. I think I might make a cheat sheet so I have all the important stuff on one or two pages, so I don't have to go looking for things.

One thing I'd advise you to do is never judge the quality of a unit based on one (or even a few) games of experience. Hot or cold dice can make anything look good or bad, and sometimes you get results that are very situationally specific. It can be dangerous to generalize based on those experiences.
