Been looking into restarting a 40k AdMech army and starting up a 30k Mechanicum army. I know enough about AdMech to know what I want/need for 40k. But I know next to nothing about their 30k equivalents. I'm going to purchase their red book pretty soon, but I had a couple questions beforehand:

- I know there are three different styles of armies you can play: Taghmata, Legio Cybernetic, and Ordo Reductor. Can someone please explain the differences between the three?

- Are there currently any IA books or FAQs out there that allow 30k Mech. units to be used for 40k? If not, does anyone know if there is anything in the works for this?

- I got $500 I'm looking to spend to start out. Not including the obvious purchase of the needed red book, are there any units in particular that I should look into buying first?

- So the Legions each have their own different play-style (World Eaters being close-combat oriented, Salamanders with flame and melta weapons, Alpha Legion being all super sneaky, etc.). What does the Mechanicum offer me in play-style(s)? Is it pretty diverse, or will I be more or less set in one or two particular ways of playing them?

- Going under the assumption that 40k AdMech and 30k Mechanicum units won't be working together in either 40k or HH like how the Legions do, does any of the 40k AdMech models work as count-as models for 30k Mechanicum? For example, Skitarii being used as whatever the basic infantry the Mechanicum uses, or Ironstriders being used for anything, etc.

That's about all I got for now. Anything else that I should know, please share.

Imperial Armor 14, which has been delayed, will introduce 30k Mechanicum into 40k AdMech.

None of the present 40k AdMech models (other than Techpriests) have a tie in to the 30k Units, that I know of.

Taghmata is your general all round, Legio cybernetica is your take all the big robots you can with bonus' to the bot's and ordo reductor is your long range, heavy weapons and tanks.

Currently there aren't any way's to use them in 40k, though I think there we're rumors of them possibly being in the next/a future IA? I may be wrong so don't quote me on that.

Models you'll definitely need depend on which of the 3 current list you go with, though you'll need a magos no matter which route you go.

Each of the 3 lists have multiple play styles, legio cybernetic can be played as a gun line or a horrifying CC MC horde barreling into enemy lines.

For counts as models you can use Skitarii as Tech thralls for 30k and castellans/castellax fairly interchangebly.

Hope that all helps!

Taghmata: this is the vanilla mechanicum - it represents a broad sweep of the brush of mechanicum forces able to be mustered by any self-respecting forgeworld.
Legio Cybernetica: robots. uses pairs of castellax robots as it's compulsory troops, minimal downsides, gets perks with regards to robot control and a unique HQ choice.
Ordo Reductor: artillery and seige breaking. uses thallax as compulsory troops and also have a unique HQ, a unique force org chart, two unique HS artillery choices and perks for both tanks and infantry.

No. rumour has it that the next imperial armour book will be mechanicus vs tau and will bring in some 30k models to 40k as well as full inclusion for the new skitarii hoplites and peltasts.

Two troop units. check which you'll need based on faction chosen and i think the same goes for the HQ choice.

I think there's enough variance. The most distinct part of mechanicum forces is how it allows you to customise for a specific task which makes picking wargear and weapons a nightmare, and magnetization mandatory. Your 'meta' will determine optimal weapon loadout/unit selection; with regards to faction choice - Have a flip through the red book and see what jumps out at you.

With proxy-ing, the only limit is your imagination, but there is a weird pride in having all forgeworld and 'correct' stuff.

The Ordo Reductor - the guy's who make wonderful things like the Landraider Achillies, but can't use them in battle..
