New player here, and with about 6 games under my belt, I need some advice!

I am building and painting a unit every week....well trying to. So I started off with about 700 points worth of SM's.

I am in the process of trying to get a decent army list around units that I like. I want a good list, as not to bore my opponent.....but..... I am in it for fun and NOT looking for end all be all competitive no matter what.

I am trying to run the Medusa Strike Force (so I am using Iron Hands Tactics) while keeping points around 1600 for my next game.

What I have:

1x Term Captain I run as a Chapter Master

2x5 Man Terminator Squads (1 Assault Cannon, 1 Cyclone Missile)

3x Tac Squads...usually run as 5 or 6 man teams

1x Razorback/Rhino

1x Drop Pod

1x3 Man Bike Squad (one with Plasma Gun)

2x Dreadnoughts (1 Twin Link Las/Storm Bolter, One Assault Cannon/Flamer)

1x6 Man Stern-guard (2 combi Melta, 1 Heavy Flamer)

1x Thunder-fire Cannon (I just started modeling and painting it this week to be ready for Sat)

What I have painted that I dont use due to formation rules and/or points:

1x Libby
1x Captain in Power Armor with combi Plasma
1x5 Man Scout Squad 4 Sniper Rifles, 1 Heavy Bolter, Camo Cloaks

What I have in a box:

1x Land Raider with the options for all 3 variants (in the processes of assembly)

With that being said, I am looking to purchase either an Attack Bike (single) or Land Speeder (single) to address the fast attack slot and free up some points for more drop pods or Rhinos. I have not had luck with my 3 bikers.

Is there any suggestions on what to purchase? Either the Attack Bike or Land Speeder decent to add to this list? Any gaping holes in this list that I need to address? Any feedback is appreciated

Multi Melta attack bikes usually find their way into my list, as they are pretty good for their points, and durable with T5 and 2w. Landspeeders can either be useful as deepstriking double melta units, or equipped with a typhoon missile launcher to sit back and plug away at targets with 2 s8 krak missiles.

You definitely need more drop pods or rhinos though, from looking at your list. Drop pods give you options.

If flying solo, I’d go with the speeder. I get good results from my TML/HB one, but 2xMM is also decent.

Running a lone attack bike feels very much like a tax. It’s there to fill a slot, but not get a lot done. What you could do is beef up your bike squad by adding it, and another special weapon biker. Bonus points for a combi on the sarge. Grav is better then plasma on bike.

If you need to shave points, I might drop a dread for now.

Things to add:
rhinos/pods. Every tac squad should have a transport, plus the sternguard.
Boost the size of the sternguard. 10 men, 2xHF, and 4-5 c-meltas is a good squad. combat squad out of the pod, melt one thing and roast another.
Some choppy squad to go in your LR.

As always solid advice. Thanks very much.

I am picking up an Attack Bike tomorrow, and then another pod next week.

The games I have been playing go up by points every week, therefore I am trying to maintain a solid force, without hitting the cap.

Its good, in a sense that I can add to my army slowly. But bad because I am slimming points, and modeling units with lower points to fit, then wishing I added more options the week after.

Thanks for the tips, after the next 2 purchases, I will grab another Rhino. I guess once we hit 1850-2000 I can worry about finishing the Land Raider.
