Subject: Moralo-bots - How to kit out IG88B?

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions
|
Hello all.
I ran the following list (which I have posted here before) to great effect at a tournament last month, and am rolling it out again this coming weekend at a large FLGS tourney.
Moralo Eval (YV-666)
- HLC
- IG-88D
- Bossk
- Zuckuss
- Inertial Dampeners
- Maneuvering Fins
IG-88B (Aggressor)
- Lone Wolf
- HLC
- Tractor Beam
- Advanced Sensors
- Autothrusters
- IG-2000
- Glitterstim
While I have had great success with this build, I feel like IG-88B could be somewhat better:
IG-88B
- PTL
- HLC
- Tractor Beam
- FCS
- Autothrusters
- IG-2000
- Glittestim
Thoughts? Has anyone else run/seen any other variants of this?
I feel like the PTL build complements the FCS a little better, and having a focus/evade when needed is nice as well. The FCS is also really nice on the gunner shots, since the intention is to strip/miss the first time anyhow.
Lone Wolf is good, but that range restriction can get pesky, and Adv. Sensors is good since it catches people off guard.

PTL and FCS may seem appealing but you're spending 50 points on a ship with a fixed forward arc and it does not want to be stressed in order to turn around and not be blocked. You'll want advanced sensors if you go PTL - advanced sensor to action before revealing dial, trigger PTL to stress, reveal green move to de-stress. Try it with FCS and you'll see how awkward flying it becomes.

I'm actually thinking of putting IG-88B in standard Brobots configuration at this point:
Crack shot + FCS, so I can get the most out of that glitterstim turn.

I had moderate success with Adv. Sensors and Lone Wolf... but that one single re-roll sometimes feels anemic. That fixed arc is really a bummer on such a big base. FCS and Crack Shot can make that second HLC shot hurt when it counts.
I kinda let the list slide, to be honest. One full tourney (it was split into two weeknights because there were too many people) made me a bit sick of it.
Really good players will correctly identify the threat of the list and neutralize it rather quickly. It's a cumbersome list.

Do you need /get much use from tractor beam on the -88? I don't see much benefit so I'd use the point to get advanced sensors for those shenanigans.
Overall, this list is one I'm kinda dreading facing. .. last time I did I got moderately crushed (though I did it the most damage of anyone who faced it that night at the flgs)

The tractor beam will be useful when you miss at range 1 and can't take advantage of your HLC. Unless you can line up a shot with your target next to a rock or really want Moralo to pound the same ship hard... it's situational.

@Mathieu: don't forget that if you miss at r1 you can shoot at a different target. That trick was how a moralo-bot list just plain took me apart.
@Griff: how'd you end up doing? What lists were most challenging?

If you have a canny adversary, he'll try to deny those "switch target" possibilities. You have two glaring blindsides on your ships, and I figured if they tried to manoeuvre for those, you can get 88B turned around rather quickly, but not both.
And since I was running a Tactician instead of Bossk, my dice modification was a bit anemic. So that was another source of woe.

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Hey all. A quick report. Went 2-2 at the tournament, 16 players, 4 rounds. Finished 7th.
The list:
IG88B, crack shot, title, AT, HLC, FCS, tractor beam, Glitterstim
Moralo, HLC, Bossk, Zuckuss, IG88D, inertial dampeners, countermeasures.
First match was vs. Dengar - Bossk. Won on a final salvo. The party busses blew each other up early, and IG-88 and Dengar chased each other around, with IG-88 killing Dengar but then dying to his pilot ability return fire. Final Salvo, my six dice to his five, I roll a hit and crit, he rolls only a crit. Ridiculous end to the game, but a blast. 1-0.
Second game was vs. Fenn, Bossk (with title), and a Binyare Pilot. I one-shotted the Pirate turn 3, and killed Fenn Rau on turn 5, but lost IG88 in the process. Moralo vs. Bossk went in the favor of the higher PS and Bossk's pilot ability. Loss. 1-1.
Third game vs. Imperials, standard loadout Inquisitor, 2x Bombers with homing missiles, and a lone academy Tie. The Tie died fast in a one-shot from Moralo, and the ensuing rounds took out the bombers, but at heavy cost: IG88 got blasted away, which left Moralo facing a full health Quiz. No contest. Loss. 1-2.
Final round was vs a Corran Poe regen list, with a serious initiative bid at 93 points (which doesn't really matter for me). I pincered Corran, and blasted him away in one turn with combined fire, and then chased Poe into a corner and burned him away. I lost 2 shields on IG88. Win. 2-2.
Losing IG88 hurts this list a lot, and scum big ships are a problem since they tend to deal out a lot of damage. The funny part of the tourney was that a guy playing almost my same list played my 2-3 rd. opponents right after I did, so he lost both since I essentially gave his opponents a blueprint for defeating the list. Against defender and joust aces lists, I do very well. However, the meta is getting loaded with big, low agility ships, which takes away the strengths of the list.
My plan going forward is to replace crack shot with VI so I can get the jump on the dearth of PS6-7 pilots out there. Countermeasures on Moralo actually worked very well, so I'm keeping it.
Overalk, it's a fun list, and catches people off guard if they're unprepared.
