Has anyone used a stormsurge and loved it? I'm thinking of adding one to my Tau army. I am also looking to expand From my farsight enclaves list, 6 broadsides 2 riptides, 8 crisis suits, and a stealth unit. I was thinking of getting a couple Ghostkeels to run the Optimized Stealth Cadre. I want to be versatile and force my opponent to make choices. Any tips of units/formations you love to run or that it was a total flop I would love to hear from you! Thanks

I love my Stormsurge. It has instakilled Wraithknights before. Despite what you might think, anchoring the Stormsurge is a bad idea. Instead, give it the Pulse Blastcannon, run it up, and start D-ing and Stomping stuff.
The OSC is great, the more Ghostkeels the better. Cyclic Ion Raker is your best choice there. Retaliation Cadre + OSC w/ Homing Beacons is lethal.
Barracudas are excellent flyers. I know you didn't ask, but... just look at them.

I love mine. It can be awesome when supported. But it will also be a fire magnet and can die a lot faster than you would think. I agree, skip the gun upgrade and stick to the Blast Cannon. Early Warning Overide and Shield generators are usually auto takes. I usually support my Surge with a Commander with 6 marker drones in addition to my other sources of marker lights. You'll want enough to buff the SS's BS and have some left for potential destroyer missiles. I have not been able to make effective use of the anchors yet as not being able to move is a real hinderance.

Some will nay say the Blast Cannon but it has been valauble when you have to focus down a fast assault unit moving across the board with 3++. Two shots at Str9 Ap5 large blasts is pretty effective and under rated in that scenario.

I would balance out your use of suits with several units of kroot as you will want some speed bumps to buy you an extra turn or two.

I second the Optimized Stealth Cadre comment and the StormSruge is definitely better with the "shotgun" and staying mobile. Only against the slowest armies do I anchor myself.

Supported Mark'os then. 2 commanders with target lock, drone controllers, 2x weapons of your choice (I prefer missile pods), & 2 Marker Drones, with 3 Shas'uis with Target Locks & Twin weapon choice, and more marker drones.

Add a Stormsurge and watch them go hog wild.

(But then that is how I support riptides too, except one marko each)

Thanks guys! You never know how something plays when on paper it looks fun. I would have thought the anchors were a given too! Makes sense to act like an imperial knight. I guess the closer you get the better the gun is.

OSC is awesome. I wouldn't run ether of those units without the OSC though - very average without it.

Also in the heavy retribution Cadre you can get two SS along with a ghostkeel that has a decent bonus - mainly you get 2 SS without the need for a CAD which is real nice.

I prefer broadsides to Crisis suits but retaliation cadre gives you good buffs for both units. Typically I put the commander with the broadside unit and make 3 min units of crisis suits with TL missile pod to sread out and cap objectives.
