Since the release of 30k I've been on the fence about starting it. My main objection is cost of books and models. I have both BoC and BoP sets but the cost of the addition books and models? Ouch. Also, I don't see a large number of players in my area.

My line of thought has been "if I want to play Chaos Legions again, play 30k." I played in 3rd edition. I really miss the old Legions rules and restrictions.

Now the Chaos Legions supplement is coming. This supplement is seriously reducing the interest in 30k for me. I'll have the 40k pool of opponents, a variety of armies i have to face (not just marine vs marine) and to a certain extent, I can still play forge world models if I really want to drop the $$$.

I'd like to hear other people's thoughts and opinions on this. Talk me out of just bagging 30k.

Before the black Friday sales hopefully!

This mindset is shared by alot of chaos players. Hopefully forge world will be forced to drop their prices because of the reduced market. This effect could be further amplified if the 8th edition rules turn out good, making 30k into a more expensive version of 30k. My advice to you is to wait until the supplement is released to see if it's any good. If you're in no rush to spend your money wait for the release of the new edition too.

30k is fairly popular in my area, and there is a lot of mixing of 30k and 40k in local games. The shop just started running tournaments and I believe armies from either are fine in them.

Previously the only army that really appealed to me in 30k was Mechanicum, but I was a big Deathguard fan back in 4th/5th, so there was some pull there as well. I happened across a color scheme I like for Thousand Sons though, and am super excited about their upcoming book, as the thing that attracts me most to 40k are psykers...so I've been picking up boxes of BoP and making a few DG and a number of TS.

Now, with the number of 30k players in the area I have pretty much free access to all the books, looking at them at the shop between games. So, while I haven't sat down and made a list yet, my plan is to look into running the TS in 30k, depending on their rules, and possibly the DG as well.

So the upcoming supplements have actually done more to get me into 30k than anything.
