This is some damn good news! I recall him saying pre-Hobbit that this was on his list of stuff he wanted to do, and I think a setting like this needs someone with Jackson's vision and scope as a director. Bring it on!

Good for the look, bad for story, pace and drama.
Also auto-3 movies for book one?

I hope not.
The story wraps up nicely in three books, like LoTR, only shorter. There's no reason to try and make a series of nine films.

Well, 4 books, but yeah, each one is nicely contained and doesn't need expanding... If anything, the last one will be split as it's the longest and covers the most, but I think the biggest challenge they'll face is in dealing with the 20 year time jump between books 2 and 3.
Presumably they'll recast, but even then, getting coherent matches for old and young versions of pretty much all the principal cast will be a task and a half.

Is it four? It's such a long time since I read them. I can't seem to get my daughter interested in them.

Oh, yes, please. Just don't feth it up. Pennyroyal's entire Predator's Gold book in-universe was supposed to be a parody of movie adaptations, and it would be a shame if it happens here.
Looking forward to seeing Stalkers on the big screen. Mmph.

Yeah, 4 books, Mortal Engines, Predator's Gold, Infernal Devices and A Darkling Pain. I haven't actually seen anywhere confirming they're adapting all of them for films, but I'd assume they are. Given that Andy Serkis is involved in pretty much everything Jackson does these days, and Stalker Shrike is the only character I can think of that would require significant motion capture, I reckon he's a shoe-in for that role. I know he does more non-mocap stuff these days, but I think he'd actually be a good fit, the books always made a point of how not-quite-human Shrike's movement and speech were, and Serkis is one of the best around at that sort of thing.
