Hey all,

With the deadline for list submission to the Mass Regional coming up Wednesday, I'm starting to have some doubts about my list and am thinking about tinkering a bit.

In part, this is because I got my head handed to me by the most competitive lists at the FLGS last week (Dengaroo and Asajj&mandos), but partly because I'm not sure I've really locked down how to fly a lone wolf in a 3 ship build so I'm getting the benefits.

So, my 6-3 list that I'm giving another shot tonight is:

=================
DXL (Tournament)
=================

540th Imperial Fighter Squadron

100 points
------

Countess Ryad (34)
TIE Defender (34), Lone Wolf (2), TIE/x7 (-2)

Colonel Vessery (37)
TIE Defender (35), Tractor beam (1), Veteran Instincts (1), TIE/D (0)

“Omega Leader” (29)
TIE/fo Fighter (21), Comm Relay (3), Juke (2), Stealth Device (3)

------

-------

But because I'mnot sure about lone wolf Ryad, I'm getting tempted to drop the stealth device on OL and give Ryad PTL & eng. Mk II. Like so:
========================
DXL MK II (Tournament)
========================

100 points
------

Countess Ryad (36)
TIE Defender (34), Push the Limit (3), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Colonel Vessery (38)
TIE Defender (35), Tractor beam (1), Veteran Instincts (1), TIE/D (0), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

“Omega Leader” (26)
TIE/fo Fighter (21), Comm Relay (3), Juke (2)

------

------

I didn't have too much trouble with the asajj stress dealing, but part of that was because Vessery died very fast (as did OL), and this version is a bit better equipped to handle it.

I also (made a huge mistake and) set up for a 3-ship alpha on dengar but passed on having Ryad TL, so when Dengar popped countermeasures, OL lost his lock and Vessery had nothing to give him free locks. With a ptl Ryad, I'd have had 2 locks for Vessery to boost off.

I'm going to run the lonely Ryad version again tonight for the practice, but I am feeling a lot less certain that it's the right way to go.

BTW, any Dakka-ites planning on the Dec 3 regionals in Danvers Mass?

I think PTL would be pretty strong, but I do not actually know if it is a requirement. However, in your list it might be because of Vessery needing more TLs out there.

I wish I could go to X Wing events but I am in the middle of nowhere haha

Well I went 1-2 at the FLGS tournament tonight with lonely Ryad, and perhaps most importantly I got completely wrecked in a "mirror match " vs palp/Vessery/ Glaive (both x7 juke).

I really think that lone wolf just pushes me to put ryad in places that it's easier for my opponent to focus on her and kill her (didn’t help that I blanked on the evade dice against a 4 hit attack on a shieldless but evade token Ryad).

So, for regionals on Saturday i can go with either:
=================
DXL (Tournament)
=================

540th Imperial Fighter Squadron

100 points
------

Countess Ryad (36)
TIE Defender (34), Push the Limit (3), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Colonel Vessery (38)
TIE Defender (35), Tractor beam (1), Veteran Instincts (1), TIE/D (0), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

“Omega Leader” (26)
TIE/fo Fighter (21), Comm Relay (3), Juke (2)

-------

This one keeps the tractor beam but loses Stealth on Omega. I'm finding that (with the fickle green dice) I'm losing the Stealth on the first shot (even on my game against Poe, Jake and a HWK, I couldn't keep OL at range and out of arc... and I very much dislike black one )

But with Ryad in a position to focus & TL, I feel like I'll have more freedom to run OL out of danger instead of trying to keep him relevant to the battle (in TL range for example)

My other option is to go with double x7s, somewhat limited by the fact that I only have 1 copy of Juke (i could pick up another f/o before Saturday but I don't really want to) like this:
==================
LXX (Tournament)
==================

70th Imperial Fighter Squadron

100 points
------

“Omega Leader” (29)
TIE/fo Fighter (21), Comm Relay (3), Juke (2), Stealth Device (3)

Countess Ryad (36)
TIE Defender (34), Push the Limit (3), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Colonel Vessery (35)
TIE Defender (35), Lightning Reflexes (1), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

View: http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/580888/lxx-tournament-
------

With this build I thought lightning reflexes would be a bit better than a single crack shot (though I wish I had time to test it), which is a card i can definitely see being useful in multiples (somewhat like juke on folks other than Omega Leader... but there seems like there are way too many ways for targets to have multiple focus tokens for a single juke to be decisive).

But, in my time with Defenders, there have been a lot of times I have wished for an s-loop at least once in a match...

Thoughts?

So, I took the DXL list (540th Imperial Fighter Squadron) to the Mass Regional tournament today and ended up going 4-2 and finishing 17/57... just missed out (24 total mov) on collecting a thermal detonator token set... top cut was to 8, so I was well short of that. Still, a personal best by a wide margin.

My 1st loss (in the 1st round) was to a Dengar party bus list, and I did manage to get half points on both before I was tabled, and the other was a 100 to 14 clobbering from a palp Defender list (Vessery/ Ryad both x7, his Vessery was juked).

Part of my error in the 2nd loss (right after the lunch break) was not going for Palpatine first... I just wasn't able to push the damage through.

But my suspicion was confirmed that the D title really needs (or at least greatly appreciates) the extra defense buff from Palpatine. He died first in just about every round and I don't recall dropped the tractor beam token more than a handful of times all day (that said, the Colonel did do some very useful token stripping with the cannon shots).

My 2 wins before lunch were very close - defeated a Redline mini swarm by the points difference between Redline (cluster, Concussion, Extra Munitions, ion bomb and fcs) vs. Vessery's 37 points. The second (against a miranda/ Braylon/ Biggs (?) List, I had a mov of 4 points (Vessery and ryad both ate Homing Missiles, but ryad and OL managed to survive to time - ryad on 1 health- in part because Braylon got "buck fever " and focused on stressing Ryad but got too close to the board edge and flew out (almost, if not full health).

2nd game after lunch (game 4 overall) my opponent (Soontir & Ryad x7 (nothing else) glaive x7 (nothing) - didn't even have Adaptability cards) deployed Soontir in a corner and used a Defender dial which he set to a 1-bank. I felt bad but I dialed Soontir off the board for that (opponent was gracious and said he would have done the same). After that he didn't have a chance. OL picked his Ryad apart and my Vessery &Ryad wrecked the Glaive. 100-0.

Final round was me vs TIE aces (Omega/ Zeta/ Howlrunner/ Dark Curse/ Wampa)... strain of setting 5 dials/round caused some unforced errors allowing a Vessery double tap on a token less Omega (with both of my others piling in for the kill). In this one, Vessery survived a couple of critical rounds with 1 health left by getting behind the formation (and Ryad lasted to the end of the game on 1 hull because of focus/ evade) although I put Ryad on a rock twice by trying to be too clever (losing 4 rounds of action and 2 of shooting total). We went to the last round (time)before I was finally able to kill Dark Curse ... his pilot ability is a real pain for a Defender list! 100-37. (Opponent also had green dice failure at some of the worst possible times).

Thanks all here for the list building advice and to the group of great sports who came out to Danvers Massachusetts for the tournament.
