I am a recent recruit to the Warhammer 40k scene and am, needless to say, struggling with building a even remotely competent list. My goal was to grow my list over time, starting with 500pts and escalating to 850pts, then a third number, and capping out at what is considered to be the typical tournament size in terms of point total (which I keep hearing is 1850pts?). Right now, I own three Drop Pods, the Starter Collection for Blood Angels, A Death Company box of 5 models, another box that came with a Dreadknought (built with Blood Talons and a Flamer/Storm Bolter), A full Tactical Squad, and Captain, a Sanguine Priest, Librarian and an (older) box that has a Stormraven, Assault Terminator Squad, and an additional Librarian, as well as another Dreadknought.

I am open to either suggestions for list building, or suggestions on what models to pick up/how many, etc. I do not mind doing some of the leg work on my own, I just feel like I am starting to get overwhelmed with all the options I do have and have no clear direction to move toward.

Thanks in advance. Ultimately anything will be of great help!

okay pal.... wow have you brought us a challenge here.

more than happy to try and help you out here; but I'mma need your help too.

Maybe we could start by clarifying what exactly you own?
preferably in the format below:

(Unit Name)
(Loadout)

(next unit etc.)

this will help make it clearer for us, and will enable us to suggest some builds using what you've got in front of you?

Actually, that makes a whole lot of sense and I am feeling a bit silly for not trying to be more clear on my end. Though, most everything I have is unassembled, which is on purposes, because I do not know what direction to build them in and would like to, ideally build them toward a particular loadout without having to worry too much about swapping things out all that often for the time being.

Here is what I do have that is assembled.

x1 Furioso Dread
(Blood Talons, Mag Grappler, Heavy Flamer/Storm Bolter. Can swap right arm for Frag Cannon)
x1 Terminator Captain
(Standard, out of the box load out?)
x1 Sanguinary Priest
(Standard, out of the box load out?)
x1 10 Man Tactical Squad
(x1 Heavy Bolter, x1 Flamer, Lt. w/Power Sword and BP)
x1 Drop Pod
(Storm Bolter, Locator/Homing Beacon)

That is what I have assembled presently. Unassembled I have the following:

x2 Blood Angels Librarian in Terminator Armor
x1 5 Man Blood Angels Death Company Box
x1 10 Man Tactical Squad (for a total of 2 full Tactical Squads once both are assembled)
x1 Blood Angels Captain
x1 Baal Predator
x2 Drop Pods
x1 5 Man Assault Terminators
x1 Stormraven Gunship
x1 Blood Angels Dreadnought

Of the assembled models, on the Captain in Terminator Armor is painted, as well as the Furioso Dreadnought. Most of these are in larger collections (Sanguine Strike Company, Blood Angels Battleforce, and Start Collecting! Blood Angels).

Hope this gives you a better idea of what I have to work with. Suggestions on what to assemble the unassembled models I have as would be awesome. Same with future purchases to consider and well... Overall composition of lists. Ideally I want to work my way toward playing competitively, which I heard requires everything to be "What You See is What You Get."

Again, thanks!

After some more poking around, and a friend of mine finally getting back to me, I am considering picking up two Vindicators as a staple to my possible future army. Would this be a good addition?

Again, thanks for the advice!
