Hi guys,

Ordered my wife her christmas presents through wayland and I got a free TY rule book, after flicking through it seems very similar to FoW.

My question is how much does a force cost? I am thinking of getting the USSR and British starter sets and maybe an additional box each on top, would this make a playable game?

I think realistically you are looking at less than £150 for a basic Brit force (assuming 100points), probably upto £200 for one with decent range of units. Brit infantry are expensive becasuse of the number of FV432 APCs you will end up buying (at least 2 possibly 3 boxes). You can perhaps lessen this using Heli-borne infantry but I have not explores this option.

The tanks from the starter x2 will bulk out the force as the basis and the Helos add cheap AT or slightly more expensive infantry delivery.

Soviet forces tend to be a bit more "horde" (hey, they're Russians! ) but also get a bit more in the starter box. I read on the FoW forum that basic/budget forces still run to 15-20 T-72s but I don't have a list for them so not sure.

Assuming TY products are as expensive as FoW...more than you should pay. I'd imagine there are 15mm alternatives out there to almost everything you need to run though.

Do the unit cards only come in the TY boxes?

First off, the game is great! Similar-ish to FOW but much more stripped down. Plays a lot faster than FOW and is, imo, a superior system.

Re: Forces. I think 80 points-ish is the sweet spot myself. That gives you enough toys on the table, without it getting crowded.

The starter boxes are roughly 50 points each. If you want to go for all TANKS then buying another box of T-72s of Cheiftains should do it. Combined arms forces work better though. So a box, or two, of transports/support vehicles and some inf should be enough.

Thanks guys that dosnt sound too bad. Although my mates will play it they take years to paint forces up so it will be down to me to have both NATO and Warsaw available.
