Hi Dakka !

I was thinking to start a new CSM war band and i have a problem i cant decide with witch bases to go 25 mm or 32 , as i understand most csm basic troops and boxes come with 25 mm bases but space marines almost all went on 32 mm . I just cant decide i guess i want them on bigger bases so they would look bigger models i guess like space marines but that means extra money spend + not sure bout the rules and such and what would benefit most, smaller bases are better for cc and larger give more protection against blast i guess . So i would love to hear your opinion and with what you decided to go when making new csm models.

The basic CSM squad comes with 32mm (I think, maybe)

But the 32 looks way way way better, so I recommend that.

With the way CC works I wouldn't worry about getting the important units into combat, larger bases really only effect things like Lasher Tendrils and Hammer of Wrath. Personally, anything that helps mitigate blast templates is a must have. When I need to change bases I usually just make them myself using foam from Hobby Lobby. Once they're painted and lookin' pretty, no one can tell the difference between a circle of foam bought for pennies and a plastic base bought for a dollar+.

Go for 32mm.

1. It looks better, which is the most important factor.
2. Blast templates.

If I was starting a new army I would use whatever base is supplied (32mm for marines) as that will be the way from now on.
Wouldn't retcon my old ones though

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples
