Quick lore question. Is it possible/likely that a Lord Inquisitor can also a planetary governor? Say for example a member of a ruling family becomes an Inquisitor and then inherits lordship of the planet? Or does becoming an Inquisitor prevent you from holding such titles?

There is no reason he couldn't, but unless its of benefit to his position and studies as an inquisitor, he is more likely to pass the title on to the next in line.

It's not explicitly mentioned that Inquisitors would have to give up inherited positions, but I'd bet anyone savvy enough to become one in the first place would be quick to ditch a planetary governorship. The slightest hint of favoritism towards his planet would be disastrous for his personal power among other Inquisitors.

Yeah I would assume an Imperial title requires giving up local ones.

Most imperial officials Commissars, Navy, Inquisitors come from the Scholastia P... something and are orphans with no family ties or loyalties other than the Imperium.

Is it possible? Sure. A million worlds, 10,000 years maybe there's an Inquisitor who executed a governor and declayered himself governor, or as you said maybe a planetary prince became an acolyte, made to Inquisitor and then assumed governorship.

My guess is it would not be normal and higher authorities would quickly deliver a harsh letter, followed if need be by an assassin.

I think the closest to what you've asked is Inquisitor Coteaz as he effectively acts as the overall Planetary Governor of the Formosa Sector all but in name.
