So, after a while of playing Salamanders, a friend decided he wanted to sell his small lot of guard stuffs, right as I was gifted two Imperial Knights by a friend from overseas. After some tinkering, I have come to the conclusion I should have a points cap in mind before I make a list. So, for your viewing pleasure (or pain, if you're into that.), I present the most undauntedly casual list of nonsense since Wrath of Magnus.

Spoiler:

But first, a story. The fluff of this army, if you will. On the Knight World of Tsao, not to far from the Imperial-Tau border but in a more isolated part of it, not only are they blessed with the Knights, but also being the home of the Salamanders successor chapter, the Nova Dragons. The Dragons and the Knights, while allies and sworn to aid the other, were never to fond of the ruling body of the planet and Planetary-Governor Mao Lu-zhu was not helping.

That is until a young officer named Shang was promoted to Commisar, and given command of a small regiment known now as Shang's High Guardians, given the name for their history of being almost unassailable when on the defense. Shang met with Dragonlord Issardova, the chapter-master of the Nova Dragons, right as a combined Ork WAAAGH! and Tau invasion began. Mao Lu-zhu pleaded for help, and thanks to Shang visiting the fortress monastery, The Forbidden City, three times to call on their aid. Issardova eventually relented, and went on the attack, leaving a small army to Shang to lead where they must, as well as directing two Imperial Knights to Shang's position.

The problem? Besides Tau ing cheating and Ork nonsense, the two knights were absolutely insane, one often singing when he spoke, the other always asking if they had seen his dog. Now facing down the forces with an admittedly large army, he fights off equal foes who try to break into the capital city of Boyan, praying to the Emperor that some more aid will come to help them break this invasion.

Imperial Knights - 780

A real quick note, as I am sure all of you know, knights are stupid and should not be used in a casual list, but as a MTG player, I know casual doesn't entirely mean 'I'm not going to play something absurd'. I do not endorse using them, but to quote The Producers, "If ya got it, flaunt it."

Knight-Errant (Sir Killalot) - 375
Meltagun

Knight-Warden (Mr. Psycho) - 405
Ironstorm Missile Pod

Space Marines - 730

Chapter Tactics: Salamanders

Chaplin - 170
Storm Bolter (MC), Drake-Smiter, Jump Pack

2x Tactical Squad - 155 a pop
Razorback w/ LasPlas and Dozer Blades, Flamer in each squad

Assault Squad - 125
2x Plasma Pistol, Vet Sargent

Relic Whirlwind Scorpius - 125

Imperial Guard - 1490

Ministorum Priest - 25

Tank Commander Vanquisher - 195
Sponson Multimeltas, Camo-netting, Lascanon, Hunter-Killer Missile, Recovery Gear

Leman Russ Punisher x2 - 200 pts each
Sponson Heavy Bolters, Camo-netting, Lascanon, Hunter-Killer Missile, Recovery Gear

Infantry Platoon

- Platoon Command Squad - 110
Commisar (Power Fist, which is modled to look like his normal fist because reasons), Power Sword on the Commander, Vox-Caster, and Meltagun

- 2x Infantry Squad - 85 each
Vox-Caster and Krak Grenades

- Heavy Weapons Team - 60
3x Lascanons

Veterans - 65
Vox-Caster

(3) Armored Sentinel Squad - 220
2x w/ Lascanon, one with Missile Launcher
Camo-neting, Recovery Gear, and Smoke

Basilisk - 170
Camo-netting, Fire Barrels, Heavy Flamer, Hunter-Killer Missile, Pintle Heavy Stubber, Recovery Gear

----

I am thinking of adding a team of three Heavy Bolters, maybe go from the Oathsworn Detachment to the Baronial Court, or just take out the Space Marines and get a few transports. Suggestions are welcome, since I am new to Guard and their tricky ways.

See you next winter.

Hi there! For your guard I would recommend dropping the two punishers as they will only be BS3 and will be hitting half the time, leaving you with 10 str5 hits with no AP. I would recommend either a leman russ battle tank with no side sponsons or fancy upgrades. If you want to run a punisher put in Pask, equip with 3 heavy bolters and a heavy stubber. He has BS4 (being a tank commander) however you also get PE and rend with the punisher gatling gun. This config will melt anything in the game, from ork hordes to termies. However it is very expensive so I recommend two stock leman russ battle tanks in his squad to serve as distractions and to take some fire.

I would say you are padding your guard units with too many upgrades, drop the powerfist in the platoon, they are going to die very quickly and will never get to be in close combat. Also take the firebarrels off of the basilisk and the heavy flamer, if you have to use either you have lost the game as the opponent by that point will be overrunning you.

I would also drop the hunter killer missles, they are pretty meh in my opinion.
