For xmas im getting the old scion army box and would like help with a 1K list. I get they're not the best but i love the minis. I also have 10 more scions and a taurox so could play the ground assault formation from the book if thats better.
command squad 140
4 meltagun - medpack - taurox - autocannon
commisar - 40
plasma pistol
10 scions 210
2 plasma gun - taurox - autocannon
10 scions 210
2 plasma gun - taurox - autocannon
5 scions 90 ( these guys will deep strike )
2 melta gun
5 scions 90 ( these guys will deep strike )
2 melta gun
Valkyrie 135 - lascannon
total 995
Also just curious when I expand this army what should I ally IG tanks or SM?

I think your points are off. I count 1045 and you can't take 4x Meltaguns and a Medi-Pack. The medic can only have a Hot-Shot Lasgun. On to the list, it will certainly get the job done. I would rather put Plasma in the Command Squad. 2x Melta teams is enough anti-tank.
You can do either Marines or Guard as allies. I lean toward Marines. They give you more staying power and access to assault units. Or get exotic and do Deathwatch or Grey Knights.

Thanks I will double check. Some other input was reducing my squads of 10 to 5. Are there any advantages playing 10 man units over 5 man? Other than more special weapons. Automatically Appended Next Post: Adjusted my list. Any suggestions to bum this to 1500 or 1850? I have access to two knights, valkarie, some chimeras and vets.
Was thinking maybe ally one knight and toss in the valkarie and more deep strike scions?

Your revised list is illegal. In order to take the 2x Meltagun teams, you need a Combined Arms Detachment with an HQ.

It depends how you define advantage. Multiple small units ( MSU) give you more board coverage and more threat diversity, but you sacrifice durability. Bigger units give you more staying power and more bang for your buck when issuing orders, but make it easier for your opponent to focus fire and sweeping advance. In general, Scions do better as an MSU army, but there is room for one big unit or two to camp objectives. If you field a squad of 10, I think it's better to make your special weapons Hot-Shot Volley Guns, so that the whole unit has the same target priority.

Sweet maybe I'll use a unit of to and stuff them in the valkrie or deep strike them onto objectives

i would highly suggest not DSing on objectives. where i play all of ours are on terrain. that and if you scatter GG to the scions.

You totally can. Scions have Move Through Cover, so automatically pass dangerous.

The problem with DSing onto objectives (with anything other than bare five man squad) is that you waste valuable points on your special weapons if they are not in range of a target. It's one thing if they are a part of your SC Box since Scions respawn if the Commissar remains alive, but it's another thing to set aside unit(s) that may or not even shoot with their special weapons. Running min squads also reduces the risk of DS mishaps since it is ALWAYS easier to fit in five models than it is to fit 6+. If you wanted a full squad I would put them in a Taurox to get up the field, which may draw fire from your specialized squads. You'll have a bit more staying power too if your transport gets destroyed, and you are not paying an eight man tax to get TWO special weapon shots at extended range if you went HSVG (even less than 18" Base HSL if you went Melta/Plasma).
Personally I think it is a waste to put MT on a Valkyrie unless it is part of the Formation. You are already paying an additional price per model to have DS, may as well use it. I'm currently starting a Ground Formation, but would be open to adding air assets in pieces if it makes sense. Unfortunately for their two Formations you must either go all in first turn or all out in reserves (which means first turn loss if that's all you have).
